Old slider pot

Old slider pot

2004-11-08 by Clive

Hi All,

I need to replace a slider in an old piece of kit and I can't seem to
find a manufacturer let alone anything else.

I hope you don't mind me asking you good people.

The slider's part number is EVAL0PC15A26 and it has a rating of '2MA'
(I don't even know what that means, I'm used to Ohms!)

The slider is used to control 'Portamento' in both the Roland CSQ-100
Sequencer and their SH09 synth. It is for the former that I need it.

Any equivalent would be fine, it's not a control I will be using.

If it's any help, there are some service docs here:

http://www.synthesizerarchiv.de/circuits/roland/sh09/sh09.pdf

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Clive.

Off the top of my head I think that it's most likely a 2Mohms Audio (Log)
taper pot. Probably manufactured by ALPS.

Hi!

Have you contacted Roland directly? I've found that eventhough they might not actually have the part, they should be able to point you toward an 'Official Roland Repair Centre' who can sell you the part. I've had to do this a couple of time and have been reasonably successful.

Also, if it's just a pot/slider, can you not measure the resistance range of that/another slider and try to find one from a new manufacturer? eBay's also worth a shot as some guys are making replacement sliders for Junos etc and they might fall into the right range.

Good Luck!

Hi Eric,

I had thought about contacting Roland, but discounted the idea due to
the age/value factor. Another avenue to try though.

I wish I hadn't wasted the weekend trawling the net..........you guys
are goooooood :-)

I can't add anything useful, but if
Old Slider Pot was a brand of whisky, I'd buy it.

Thanks Rory,

Your a star!!!

I can't believe that I was on Panasonic's site today looking at
capacitors for work, the numbers all started EV... but the penny
didn't drop.

Perhaps it's not such a good idea to switch off as soon as you leave
work :-)

Thanks to all the others who helped, also. The ALPS trail ran cold and
I'm still waiting to hear from Roland, Whisky? I don't know...maybe
get a free sample first ;-)

Take care.

Clive.

Hi all,

After following all of your good advice I got a reply from Roland:

"I have checked out the availability for this
part unfortunately we do not have stock and Roland Japan can no longer
supply either.

Very sorry"

Does anyone have any ideas about bypassing the slider altogether, I
don't need it.

Clive.

Use 1 or 2 fixed value resistors in place of the slider.

With 2 resistors you can pick your "setpoint" for the slider position. For a
single resistor you can wire the slider to the "bottom" or "top" as
preferred.

If the slider only has a problem when moving you could just short the moving
connection to either end and leave the part in the circuit.

Hope this makes sense...I'm a little tipsy at the moment...great time to hit
the studio and make bad music!
