Use 1 or 2 fixed value resistors in place of the slider. With 2 resistors you can pick your "setpoint" for the slider position. For a single resistor you can wire the slider to the "bottom" or "top" as preferred. If the slider only has a problem when moving you could just short the moving connection to either end and leave the part in the circuit.
