FW: [motm] Moog/MOTM Cabinet
2000-10-22 by Tkacs, Ken
When I get around to building my cabinets this winter, I too was considering drilling some holes in Masonite for a back panel. Right now I'm thinking I will just buy some pre-drilled masonite "peg-board," since Home Depot has it cheap in 4'x4' sheets, and the holes are spaced nicely. I don't really care what it looks like in back, since it will be a studio-only machine up near a wall, but I DO want to keep dust off (and the cat out of it) while allowing for some ventillation. Hey, if you use pegboard, you can get some hooks and hang your cables off the back! :) Question--do you find the 10" depth "stable"? I was going to take advantage of the shallow depth of the MOTM modules and keep depth to an absolute minimum (maybe 8" outside measurement), but I worry that I will plug a patch cord in and push the whole thing over. Is this a silly worry? Even with rubber feet? That's an open question to any of you cabinet guys / Moog owners. Right now it is sitting pretty close to a wall in the middle of a "stack" with no air vents nearby so dust accumulation should be minimal. The depth of the box at about 10" also provides a pretty good overhang over the modules. If I do put a back on it, I will probably use some thin "Masonite" and put holes around the PS --- "J.
