Digisound Waveform Multiplier

2004-07-07 by David Moylan

Anyone on the list ever heard this guy in action? It's basically a
chorus circuit which uses 3 phases each of 2 LFOs to phase a single
incoming sawtooth 6 ways and combines. Seems a simple way to thicken up
a single oscillator. Info including schematics (and a MOTM format
Schaeffer .fpd) available at this link.

This circuit is very similar to the Multi Phase Waveform Animator
(MPWA) from Electronotes. There are several other instances on this
theme out there. Off the top of my head:

The very notion of "voltage controlled fat" makes me chuckle.

Richard Brewster pasted a link on the ModularSynthPanels group with a
sample of his MPWA:

An official MOTM version of this beast would be most welcome.

That is indeed an Electronotes MPWA fed by a bass pitch sawtooth VCO to
provide the starting point for some subtractive synthesis. If memory
serves correctly, the MPWA is followed by a 24db/oct LPF, and a
bucket-brigade analog delay, both of which are being swept by LFOs.
There's also some spatial modulation going on. The "liveliness" is
provided by the MPWA with its eight internal fixed rate LFOs creating
eight phase-shifted versions of the input sawtooth, all mixed back with
the original. The MPWA had no control inputs. It had an input jack and
an output jack, period. I had a lot of fun with it. But that synth is
long gone. This is one module that hasn't made it into my current synth
yet.

In-Reply-To: <40EC488F.3000502@...>
I have built a couple of boards of the multiplier but due to
huge amounts of new job, new house, attic conversion etc
I have not managed to wire it up to its front panel yet.

I'll let you know when I do.

cheers
