http://www.nice-racks.com/ Nothing too exciting, but inexpensive and possibly a good option for those less inclined to become woodworkers. Ivan

Those do look pretty nice and reasonably priced for something made from pine. The availability of 10" and 12" depths makes them cool for MOTM too. Thanks for the link Ivan. So, who's gonna order one and write a list review? :) Larry

I will order one. I want a rack to put my Paia and Blacet stuff that is not so deep as my current Raxxess economy racks. I plan to order one that is walnut, so I can compare that. I do not understand the difference between the stains "Special Walnut" and "Dark Walnut". The web site says it may take about three weeks to arrive. Larry, how deep is the new walnut cabinet Paul used at NAMM 2003? (Lazy, not looking at the stooge site to look it up) My MOTM gear will definitely will be going into a Stooge Enterprises solid walnut cabinet kit (if they come to pass). Stay tuned. I look forward to hearing the report. :) > I plan to order one that is walnut, so I can compare that. I do not understand the difference between the stains "Special Walnut" and "Dark Walnut". It is kind of hard to tell from the small samples. I would think dark walnut would be pretty dark on a wood like pine. > Larry, how deep is the new walnut cabinet Paul used at NAMM 2003? The straight cabinet is 10" deep. For comparison, dot com are 8 1/2" and my personal cabinets are 11.5". 10' seems quite nice. I have never actually had a 900 power supply in my hands (cough, cough), so I cannot comment on if 10" would be deep enough to allow the power supply on the back. I guess it depends on the recess of the front rack rails. 10" was plenty deep to have the power supply mounted inside and put a MOTM size module in front of it. However, Blacet and other deep brackets sized modules could not go in front of the power supply in the 10" deep cabinet. > My MOTM gear will definitely will be going into a Stooge Enterprises solid walnut cabinet kit (if they come to pass). The first "test kit" is being built as we type. :) Larry H

I built my upper cabinets 10" deep and they are fine with a 900 in the back and regular MOTM modules in front. I just can't put a Time Machine directly in front of the 900 because the TM is too deep. I guess this will apply to any module that uses the looooong Stooge bracket. But all other modules seem to fit fine.

But all other modules seem to fit fine. I emailed David Tatelbaum and he said they normally mount the rack hardware 3/4 inch inside from the front edge. So in a 10 inch rack box there will be 9 and 1/4 inch module room inside. For my efforts, I will be putting in FracRak boxes and mounting on the rear a MOTM 900 to power the Blacet and Paia modules. I will go home tonight and measure how deep the 900 is so I can make it all fit. The FrakRak boxes are about 7 and 1/4 inch deep. The nice-racks web site lists the smallest depth size as 12 inches, however David said he could make a 10 inch at the same price as a 12 inch. Also, his opinion is the the "Special Walnut" stain is probably closest to match solid walnut as it appears on the Minimoog Voyager as shown on the MoogMusic site, using that as my reference for solid walnut color. As the dust settles, I may ask David to make me an 11 inch depth box. More to come. Andy

I talked by email with David Tatelbaum at nice-racks and he was very prompt with answers (a good sign). We exchanged several emails discussing requirements, stain colors, measurements and such. I ordered a 16 space, 12-inch deep, special-walnut color stained, handles included, along with a special measurement 1/4 inch recess install of the rails. The total cost including shipping is about $132 bucks. I can expect the rack in about two to three weeks. When it arrives I will report back on what I think of it. Currently I have a 16 space Raxxess economy rack I had to put together myself. It is 16 inches deep and takes up way too much room and does not look that nice. The nice-racks rack will be stuffed with FracRaks of Paia and Blacet modules and it will sit next to (hopefully) a Stooge Enterprise solid walnut MOTM cabinet. Andy
