Monitors

Well, I get any of these monitors at probably 35% off what you guys
get, maybe less, but they're still expensive, but since I'm in a
differenet price range i'm wondering if I should go for the Mackies
or just stick with the tried and true 20/20BAS speakers.

Side note, if your 2020s (or PS8s, i'd imagine) ever start buzzing
when you're putting any bass into them, fret not! Your woofer's not
blown, it's just the power cable that runs to the LED on the bottom
of the woofer. Take out the screws around the woofer, pull that
little cover off, and pull out the led cable. then string it along
the edge of the woofer, or the frame, or however you want, and put it
back together. It's the only problem I've had with event monitors
(aside from the PS6s that cooked themselves on a metasonix piece)

I can't say if my experience is typical, but I got a couple of
Monitor 1s for really cheap. But they were only cheap if I don't
consider the cost of replacing tweeters on what has become almost
an annual basis. I'm beginning to think they used the Gillette/
Printer Manufacturer business model of giving away the razor/printer
to make money on the blades/ink cartridges.

Really sucks every time one quietly fails. I think I have one ear
stopped up.

Warning: I work at Mackie so this is blatant self-promotion.

Check out some new Mackie studio monitors at

http://www.mackie.com/

And go to the E-Show part of the website.

I use Mackie HR824's for electronic music monitoring and mixing, but am VERY
impressed with the new product as well. And if you want more low-frequency
energy, we've got a new solution for that as well.

Ok, off my promotional soapbox.

I spent some time A/Bing the event 20/20bas and the mackie HR824s. I
bought the 20/20bas because they sound very flat and I needed flat.
The HR824s are noticeably brighter at the top end and much heavier at
the bottom end, they didn't sound flat at all.

I have the Mackie 824s and love them. Dead accurate. One man's
meat is another man's 'poisin', though :)

What kind of tweeters are in the M1's?? That's not typical for near fields.
Typically the woofers go, and it's a common practice to add fuses or keep a
spare bass driver. Although, using subwoofers is getting more and more
popular.

Otoh, I have a pair of Allison home stereo speakers in which I've had to
replace a tweeter six times.

Don't the Mackies have EQ switches?? Maybe the switches were switched.
