what do boolean functions do in a modular synth environment ?

mark

sorry for dupes, i have been clumsy with email lately. and i dont' want to
rekindle a shootout, but i think it's ridiculous that this list is set up
to reply to the person who posted rather than the list itself.

conditional signal routing, basically... in english: they make it possible
for you to make something happen depending on what's going on with two
other things. this is the most simple example, but when you have more than
one of these things in a synth, crazy (controlled) self-controlled patches
become a lot of fun.

ask someone with a nord modular the same question. :) i use logic modules
in the nord to do strange things with trigger pulses, but there are a LOT
more possibilities than just that.

bleep.
out.

Dead right :)

They are also useful with gate sequencers (often used to sequence
percussion or automate events). They also can be used as an "alarm" or
governer that stops or resets a patch after a certain set of conditions
have been met. In a similar way, a patch dependent sequencer can be set up
so that the logic monitors the patch and its output advances the sequencer
to the next step (the output of the logic module is clock input of the
sequencer).

Since logic gates are faster than audio, they can also be used with VCO's
-- using oscillator sync and PWM to play intervals and create different
harmonic structures. Likewise, a digital shift register can not only be
used a simple memory module, it can also be used an octave divider.

Of course, I'm sure the mad scientists on this list can come with all sorts
of ways to abuse logic modules with their MOTM system :)
