Looking at schematic: I suspect that a 0.1uF cap across the output terminals (just solder it across the OUT jack s lugs) will get rid of the pops. No buffer

Yes, TJ is correct: the LF398 chip switches the output in like 100ns and some modules will not like this. As it turns out, I need to re-tool the front panels
