How do you more experienced MOTMers test new modules and DIY stuff?

Do you test them in situ or do you have a benchtop rig?  Does the
module go to the 'scope or does the 'scope go to the mountain?  (Damn,
forgot, no religious threads!)

I have seena photo of a get together where Cynthia had a module
mounted on extenders so that trim pots could be tweaked at the modular.  

Opinions?
