Cheap Poly 800....Malfunctioning Audio Output?

Cheap Poly 800....Malfunctioning Audio Output?

2006-03-14 by peter_vh01

hell everyone,

a guy in town is offering me a poly 800 for $40 (canadian). the thing
is, the audio apparently goes in and out from the 1/4 inch output.
here's what he said:

"well here's the thing. it works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't.
sometimes you have to jiggle it, sometimes you have to turn it off and
back on and sometimes nothing comes out at all...i had a guy at
songbird [local vintage instrument dealer] look at it and he said it's
definitely the output, there's nothing wrong with any of the circuit
boards or anything."

Anyone worth experience deal with a Poly 800 like this? I am handy
enough to resoder things if need be, perhaps even capable enough to
install a new 1/4" output, but that is probably where it ends. Will it
require anything more than a simple resoldering job, or could it be a
much more serious problem?

Anyone know where i can get a service manual?

Should I just get it anyway for the $40?

Thanks so much!

_ Peter

Does the headphone jack work properly? Either way, I would buy it for
that price. If the headphone jack works, you can use that as your
output until you get around to fixing it.

Poly Mods

Just a question, does anyone have a "complete" list of the modifications
that can be performed to a Poly-800? I already did the moog slayer and
added the battery for saving the ram presets. I'm waiting for some spare
time to add a switch to use the EX-800 rom. Is there any more? :)

if you get it and only want it for spares, i have one here that needs
some keys etc
maybe you could make back the cost of it and still have a spare for
the circuits etc

Come on guys, if you can jiggle the cable and it
works, then it's just a loose connection.

Pay Radio Shack $5 for the 30-cent female 1/4 TRS
plug. Get "epoxy solder" and you don't even have to
worry about solder gun heat.

$40 Canadian is too good to pass up.
