The tape could very well be worn or damaged. Try either loading the sounds from one of the wav files in the files section of this group, or making new tapes

I wouldn t trust the Poly 800 for live gigging unless i have a tape machine set up on stage... Anyway it is recommended to keep fresh batteries inside the unit

Try cleaning your Tape Heads......they get clogged with Oxides off the Tape.... and or De-Magnetize the heads on the Tape Deck......Also Tapes do get damaged
