Waveform #32 Shapes

Waveform #32 Shapes

2007-05-27 by jboltnz

Hi K3ers.
Ive been having great fun with my recently aquired K3 and even more
when I got hold of a RC-2 cartridge.
Now I'm getting familiar with the set waves, I want to start exploring
the additive feature.
It was Soundonsound Synth Secret articles , that got me interested in
this beast. The explanation of how a K3 can emulate hammond drawbars
is a excellent introduction to the K3.

Now im trying to go beyond that and try some other wave types.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on the following?
Is there a simple formula/method to converting a wave shape into a
additive spectra.

eg if i want to make Triangle waves of different slopes, Is there a
simple formula, or is this where the fourier transform thingo makes
additive synthisis hard work?

It would be cool to be able to see the resulting wave forms.

Can anyone suggest some kind of freeware app or plugin that lets you
see the resulting wave forms?

Thanks
J

I think you need the program in the files section of this website,
its the k3 editor for the atari simulator, it allows you to edit your
whole synth on your computer and allows you to see your waveforms as
actual pictures, I personally haven't learned how to use it yet but
i'm sure i will with time and some help from a few forums..

Thanks Justin
Yes I think I will have to investigate the editors, although I have notbeen able to get the DOS one to work under XP. Getting the Atari editorto run under Steem could be very cool. I have always been curious aboutthe Atari system.
What I really want to do is to get a handle on the K3s additivefunctions from within my favourite working environment; Project5.

I want to be able to see whats going on with the waveforms. I have found some very cool free VST effects that are awesome.

1. Voxengo SPAN http://www.voxengo.com/product/SPAN/

2. Dtblkfx http://rekkerd.org/dtblkfx/ This thing is amazing. It has a Sonogram which gives a picture overtime of the waveform. This lets you see the movement ; in the soundover time of filters and lfos etc. It seems to also be a wild multi-effect unit. Everyone should check this out.

3. S(M)exocope http://bram.smartelectronix.com/plugins.php?id=4

This is what I was looking for originally and lets you see the wave cycle from the synth. Very Cool

If you get all three running at once you can really get inside what the K3 is doing.

Im trying to move from just button twidling into understanding sound synthesis. These tools should get me a fair way

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
