Sometimes they have an image with the pins on the end, and then they are on the top or bottom on a single row. Per this datasheet: http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/1485421.pdf It looks like it SHOULD work. That is assuming the item is actually matching the datasheet. Those appear to also be available in the US from Newark. http://www.newark.com/jsp/search/productdetail.jsp?SKU=77T3021&CMP=AFC-OPF Regards, Ted On Thu, May 23, 2013 at 6:56 AM, sweetsynthchuck <sweetsynthchuck@...>wrote: > ** > > > > http://cpc.farnell.com/midas/mcoc1602bwmye/oled-2x16-yellow-green-on-black/dp/SC12731 > > would this one work ok? > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Thanks ted, I have been searching for oleds with the side pins and the initial link is the only ones I have found so far, there are many oleds with top/bottom single rows of pins but the left hand side double row pins are less common. also this may sound like a dumb question but what is the exact name for example I wanted to solder on a 16pin (insert name here) and solder it to the oled and simply connect a cable between screen and circuit board, headers/pins im not sure of the exact name, <as I have another sampler that needs to be replaced. to be more precise, screen has 16pins soldered to it to enable a cable to connect to it, circuit board of sampler will have the same 16 pin and cable connects circuit board to oled. Thanks --- In emax@yahoogroups.com, Ted Summers <djtbs1@...> wrote:

Rows of pins are called headers, the cable side is called a plug or socket. For the Raystar I have linked whether Emax RACK or Keyboard you can get a header and it will plug in directly on either. You can get them from newark.com or mouser.com. I have ordered from both. Due to pin length requirements for the Keyboard, this is the item I got: 929665-03-36-I http://www.newark.com/jsp/search/productdetail.jsp?SKU=44F7490 or Mouser Part #: 517-665-03-36 However, if you have a rack, you could get a shorter pin length, which will affect the price because you cut off pins after soldering on the rack. These are gold to prevent any connectivity issue. TIn is much cheaper, but you get what you pay for... I didnt' see the gold with less than 72 pins in that length. But once you have the base part # and idea what you are looking for (per above), you can search on the web til you are satisfied to get what you want. - T On Thu, May 23, 2013 at 10:40 AM, sweetsynthchuck <sweetsynthchuck@... > wrote: > ** > > > Thanks ted, > > I have been searching for oleds with the side pins and the initial link is > the only ones I have found so far, there are many oleds with top/bottom > single rows of pins but the left hand side double row pins are less common. > > also this may sound like a dumb question but what is the exact name for > example I wanted to solder on a 16pin (insert name here) and solder it to > the oled and simply connect a cable between screen and circuit board, > headers/pins im not sure of the exact name, <as I have another sampler that > needs to be replaced. > > to be more precise, screen has 16pins soldered to it to enable a cable to > connect to it, circuit board of sampler will have the same 16 pin and cable > connects circuit board to oled. > > Thanks > > > --- In emax@yahoogroups.com, Ted Summers <djtbs1@...> wrote: > > > > it's a little wider than the Raystar's I got.... data sheet here: > > > http://www.tme.eu/en/Document/c93b5a19b100407e7cd7c0a0a9965e30/REC001602AWPP5N00000.pdf > > available here: > > > http://www.tme.eu/en/details/rec001602awpp5n/alphanumeric-oled-displays/raystar-optronics/rec001602awpp5n00000/# > > > > Note this is the WHITE display. > > > > > > -T > > > > > > On Thu, May 23, 2013 at 9:16 AM, Ted Summers <djtbs1@...> wrote: > > > > > Sometimes they have an image with the pins on the end, and then they > are > > > on the top or bottom on a single row. > > > Per this datasheet: http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/1485421.pdf > > > > > > It looks like it SHOULD work. > > > That is assuming the item is actually matching the datasheet. > > > > > > Those appear to also be available in the US from Newark. > > > > http://www.newark.com/jsp/search/productdetail.jsp?SKU=77T3021&CMP=AFC-OPF > > > > > > Regards, > > > Ted > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > On Thu, May 23, 2013 at 6:56 AM, sweetsynthchuck < > > > sweetsynthchuck@...> wrote: > > > > > >> ** > > > >> > > >> > > >> > > >> > http://cpc.farnell.com/midas/mcoc1602bwmye/oled-2x16-yellow-green-on-black/dp/SC12731 > > >> > > >> would this one work ok? > > >> > > >> > > >> > > > > > > > > > > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] > > > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

That isn't a "drop in" replacement- the pins don't match. Emax LCD has the connection on the end. It can work- you have to modify perhaps how the screw holes line up to mount (perhaps drilling holes), and solder the connections.-T

OK. I appreciate you said exactly the same thing to someone else in another thread.
Would appreciate a link in the EU if anyone has one. I've got an old Noritake I was going to use until read this forum and the thickness issue.
many thanks Ted.

OK! Makes sense now. I did read that post about the group buy but having only skimmed didn't realise it was actually a custom order. My bad.
I will try and persevere with this one then.
Thank you Jammie and Ted.

"its the same connections 1-14 3 does not need to be connected"
1) What happens to 15 and 16?
2) Is 3 the invertor?
3) do you need to solder each pin to the board?
"and you have to drill 4 holes"
1) How do you drill holes without compromising the tracks?
Many thanks.

Jammie or Ted,
Could you clarify the following:
"its the same connections 1-14 3 does not need to be connected"
1) What happens to 15 and 16?
There are exactly the number of pins needed on that end. The other two pins are typically for backlight, which OLED doesn't use / need.
2) Is 3 the invertor?
OLED has no viewing angle adjust, therefore needs no angle POT for adjustment - that is what pin 3 is for.
3) do you need to solder each pin to the board?
In a rack, yes, in keyboard no. ON the display side, all pins get soldered.
"and you have to drill 4 holes"
1) How do you drill holes without compromising the tracks?
You may have to - I haven't had to do this, but in that case, you take kynar / wire-wrap wire and connect two points if it's necessary.
Many thanks.
