So, my miniscribe hard drive broken in my Emax. I'd like to replace it with an external zip drive. Can I just buy any SCSI zip drive off ebay and hook it up? I haven't found any good instructions for this yet.

With the Emax I you must use a ZIP drive that can be set to SCSI ID 0. All external ZIP drives I have come across can only be set to SCSI ID 5 or 6. While Compact Flash (CF) is a better option, if you're going to use ZIP drives, you'll need an INTERNAL SCSI ZIP drive, since they have jumpers that you can set to any SCSI ID (all jumpers off/open sets the drive to the required ID 0). Hope that helps, Dave On Fri, Feb 26, 2010 at 3:50 PM, leavesstillgreen <errorspending@...>wrote: > > > So, my miniscribe hard drive broken in my Emax. Why is compact flash the better option and which drive can you recommend?

yeah, but IIRC, if you boot from floppy then the emax will access the OS from the floppy from then on, and that is slooooow compared to the HD / Zip or Compact Flash. I'd say Compact Flash is the best option, no moving parts, zips fail all the time on people, and CF is fast and silent. To: emax@yahoogroups.com

So what's a cheap good cf drive you can recommend. Are the flash cards as cheap as zip disks?

Hmm that seems like a lot to buy...sounds like the internal zip drive is a lot easier. If i buy an internal scsi zip drive I can just plug it right in, right? Yes, that would work -- and as long as it is SCSI ID#0 you will be able to boot to it without requiring a floppy. -Dave On Mon, Mar 1, 2010 at 12:51 PM, RJ <errorspending@...> wrote: > So if I bought something like this > > http://cgi.ebay.com/Apple-Iomega-SCSI-Zip-100-MB-Internal-Drive_W0QQitemZ330405695312QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPCC_Drives_Storage_Internal?hash=item4cedb6cf50 > > Would i be able to just plug it into Emax SE HD and use it? > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
