Emax II Rack issues

Emax II Rack issues

2009-03-16 by s*

My Emax II rack has started going a bit crazy recently. Every time I power
it on, it appears to load the floppy OS but I get a message saying
"Warning! Need to recalibrate". The Emax seems to load disks fine however,
I cannot seem to completely format a floppy or save to a floppy. Also, the
other night while sampling I noticed that when I sampled a sound on C2, it
overwrote the same sample (only truncated differently) onto C1,D1,E1 & F1.
I fear that my sample ram may be corrupt or that my floppy drive is dying.
I tried to get another floppy drive and even thought they appear to be able
to set to drive 0, I cannot get the emax to recognise them. The machine
seems to save fine via SCSI though. I am working on a project with a friend
and he has an emax non SCSI'd so, a floppy drive would be very handy right
now.

I'm kind of at a loss what to try now. If anyone has some helpful advice,
your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

-s*

SV: [emax] Emax II Rack issues

2009-03-16 by Brian Ronn

Hi Scartattack

I had the same callibration issue on my Emax II keyboard when using a lower OS than version 2.14. Try and check your OS version on your boot disc and make sure you use v2.14

Best regards

Brian

Thanks Brian, I will give that a try although, I have no idea which OS
resides on each of my floppies. Is there any place I can download the
newest OS or would anyone be willing to mail me a floppy with this OS on
it? Also, does anyone have a list of compatible Emax II floppy drives? If
so, could you please send me this list as I would like to try and get one or
two just in case my floppy drive is also an issue.

Thanks!

I have 3 keys on my EMAX SE sampler. Can anyone recommend a company which
sells parts to rebuild the keyboard?:

You only have 3 keys or you have 3 dead keys?

I am so sorry for the inaccurate post. I have 3 keys which has lifted above
the other keys. Somewhat awkward to play and when you press while playing a
thud can be heard.
It still is a great sounding board though is a great sampler! There is
an emax II on ebay

Re: [emax] Emax II Rack issues

2009-03-20 by s*

Hmm, perhaps you need to replace the springs or j-wires (the spring
that makes key contact) in those keys? Have you opened it up? It's
possible that the keys are not seated properly and you may be able to
adjust them. Be careful if you attempt to remove a key as the j-wires
will stretch and bend fairly easily. I do have some extra keys from an
old salvaged Emax key bed that someone gave me a long time ago so it's
possible I might have the keys you mentioned.

Re: Emax II Rack issues

2009-03-21 by Chip

it looks like the problem is not the key, but the little plastic piece that stops the key (up and down). if i'm right you have to change the entire board (not the electronic board, only the black plastic that holds the board and the keys).
the last year, i have that problem 2 or 3 times (i use the emaxes in live shows as hard as i can), but the broken piece of plastic was inside keyboard, so i've fixed the problem with contact adhesive or something like that.
sorry for my english, i speak spanish

Thank You for the response. This is a task for next week -I am on vacation.
Can you guide me to a document which could give an overview of this process
(if one exists)?
