Softsynth Digidesign Mac/Atari ST

Softsynth Digidesign Mac/Atari ST

2015-03-11 by LIFELIKE

Hi guys

Im looking for an ancient version of Softsynth from Digidesign that would run either on Mac or Atari ST, the 2.7VA version on Emax group needs an soundaccelerator card, the old version doesnt.
Anybody has a copy of that, to sell (if original package) ?
Thanks!

Laurent

Would you agree to sell them to me, or how could we fix this?

Re: Softsynth Digidesign Mac/Atari ST

So I managed to dig up the following diskettes for Mac:

"Sound Designer - Universal version 1.2"
"Sound Designer - Sound Files"

"Softsynth - Master Disk Version 2.1"
"Softsynth - Parameter Files"
"Softsynth - Backup Disk Version 2.1"

Disclaimer: I have no idea if these are still readable. I haven't had a 68k Mac in a few years, and even then it's been 20 years since I used these apps. Also these may well have been copy protected, as many Mac software disks were in those days, so I can't promise they would install even if they were readable.

I had wanted to archive/clone them into image files for the benefit of the community that preserved the original track and sector format, but never got around to investigating the proper/best way to clone them. Anyone know how feasible this is, or if it's even worth doing? Any interest in these apps beyond the OP?

Just Uploaded 3 files to Emax group files, Atari apps. Looks like turbosynth is missing the Emax driver.
Yes i am interested in Atari/Mac images. I have and old 68k mac with os 7.6.1 and a midimac midi box.

I might be intereseted as well.

As far as duplicating- the Alchemy which has authorization on the disk also, was copied using DiskDup+ (ithink was the name of the utility).

IF you make an image, and it has to authorize, use the copy you make first-- that way you don't use up the authorization.

then you could upload that image….which would still have the authorization on it.

The Sound Designer by digidesign likely has authorize on it, but don't know about the SoftSynth.

Thats great Jim!
I think Ted's solution is cool, if you have Norton Floppier this could be an alternative solution.
By the way guys, i have found a copy of Alchemy 3.0 that is a copy of the original floppy master, made with Norton Floppier,
This copy works perfectly and never crashes once installed. It will authorize your harddrive.
I will upload Norton Floppier and this version of Alchemy today.
I also have a version of Turbosynth that is compatible with emax and EII using rs422 transfer, plus i have the copy of the sound libraries on 3 floppies.
It's Turbosynth V2.0, will upload this today as well.

Re: Softsynth Digidesign Mac/Atari ST

I'll take a look at Norton Floppier and make some test images to upload. Hopefully I'll have time this weekend, but not sure yet.

And I had forgotten about Turbosynth until Lifelike mentioned it. I had a copy of that once upon a time too, so if I can find it and it's a version other than 2.0, I will make an image of that & upload as well.

Sorry for the late reply but I was unable to find a Windows version of Norton Floppier as I no longer own a 68k Mac. Tried to image w/ Omniflop but that essentially failed as allit did was write 0k files to my HD.

I'll see what other imaging apps I can find and if any of those produce a better result.

Ok no worries hope you find somebody to do that, i think this copy will only be possible on a Mac, one solution would be that you send those floppies to me or Ted, and then i could dupplicate them easily as i have a lots of old macs here.
Of course i will send those back to you asap, let me know if this could be something we can organise?

Sorry I am just now getting back around to this thread. The strife of life has had me overly bogged down for a few months.

I've been unsuccessful in my attempts to image my Mac floppies so I am happy to turn them over to Ted or Laurent to image and upload to the community.

Who's up to the challenge? Ted may be closest to me shipping-wise as I've sent him stuff before.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
