Emax Rack fitting display

Emax Rack fitting display

2014-09-24 by andre@...

I finally have an Emax rack and would like to change the display as the backlight is dim. The most important thing is that this fits in the rack casing without altering or cutting the PCB. I am not afraid of using cables to extend anything so it does not need to have the connections on the side. White characters with blue backlight preferred, as well as a distributor in Europe as I am in Germany. Any hints? Cheers, Andre!

Is this a drop in replacement? I'd like to replace the display in my Emax II and Emulator II.

The raystar is a drop in for Emax 1 (key and rack), and Emax 2 (key and rack)

You have to buy a header as they don't have them attached.
I have personally installed them in all 4 of the above, but not an Emulator (as I haven't got one, and never serviced one).

Thanks Ted! Any suggestions on sourcing the exact header I will need as well? I just sold my modded Emax 1 HD SE. I still have the rack and keyboard Emax II's. They both could use a new display.

Perhaps Jammie might have some more insight as to whether these will work with the EII's? I seem to recall him saying that he has serviced some of them before.

mouser.com or digi-key- the length you need depends on whether you have a rack or a keyboard.

Keyboards require longer to go through the pass through connector. think I got .600" length… it's been awhile.

standard length is 1/4" which isn't long enough in either case….

Found the old invoice from Newark.com, actually...

What I bought (and broke down as they were 72pins, so I could use them on several displays) :
Part # 929665-03-36-I Mfr: 3M

Re: Emax Rack fitting display

I see that particular display is listed as a "special order" and I seem to recall a group buy once upon a time for white OLEDs.

A similar model is currently available from Raystar for around $25 US, but I can't recall why it was not an option... Is it because the pcb footprint is 5mm shorter or because the pins are on the bottom? Or both?

http://www.tme.eu/en/details/rec001602awpp5n/alphanumeric-oled-displays/raystar-optronics/rec001602awpp5n00000/#

And if anybody wants to go in on another group buy for some of the REC001602CWPP5N00000 displays, I'd be interested.
