burst generator problems

burst generator problems

2008-11-16 by stijncostermans

I just finished constructing a bridechamber burst generator kit
and .......it doesn't work!
ok I haven't got too much knowledge of electronics, but this is what I
can tell about the unit
the internal osc works fine (cd40106) the speed pot and range swich
work.
for the rest nothing works, no triggers whatsoever.
can anyone tell me how to go about debugging this thing? what voltages
I should read where.

tnx

cheers,
Stijn

You're sure the oscillator is normaled to your clock input for the
divider?
I fixed someone's, and the switch and signal lugs were swapped on that
jack.

I had a problem with my burst generators that was fixed by using a
different brand of CMOS IC. Hopefully you used IC sockets. I replaced
the first brand with Texas Instruments make, and all was well. Some
CMOS doesn't clock well at low frequencies.

I guess a wireing diagram/drawing would help, I have nothing
connected to the swich lugs of the jacks.
the trigger from the internal oscillator I get comes from a pin on
the ic, not from the jacks. at none of the jacks is any signal ore\
voltage.

Hi Stijn,

The wiring is part of the schematic at:
http://cgs.synth.net/modules/burst_generator.html

CO (clock out) is connected to the switch lug of CI (clock in). Without
this connected your 4017 is not getting the clock, and nothing will
happen at your outputs.

I hope this helps!

all is working!!

tnx scott

I don't know why but I connected the clock wire also to the speed
pot !
