Prototype Clap Trap rack?

RE: Prototype Clap Trap rack?

Very interesting item.  And looks genuine too, the knobs are the right ones, the sticker on the back is correct, and the typed label showing how to trigger remotely is just perfect "Simmons" if you know what I mean ?

I think it will go for a lot of money, but it won't be my money !

*remembering the bogus SDS-2 I used to own*

But I agree on the rest, it looks correct based on what can be saif
about the exterior.

I guess it's just someone's regular Claptrap that was racked for touring back in the days.
Could've been done by Musicaid though and looks well done :-)

Wow guys, who joined the bid war? Last time I looked it cost 1.60. Now
it just passed 400 pounds!

I sure hope it's the real deal inside. Many manufacturers made one-offs
at the time. Hopefully it goes to someone on the list!

That was my guess as well. I've seen plenty of stuff that's been racked for more
convenient studio or live use, including analogue synths that have had the
keyboard hacked off.

Looks like it was made using SDS3/SDS4 parts. It has the serial number sticker and it looks legit to me. I could be wrong of course as I've never seen one like this before.

I got a Musicaid Claptrap this time last year for a VERY reasonable price. (About a fifth of what they have been selling for of late).  The seller didn't realise what they had, I was literally shaking with nervousness when I went to collect as I thought they were going to pull the plug or decide they wanted £750 for it.

I LOVE mine and use it all the time. I don't think I could live without it now.  Hopefully Dave resurrects the Claptrap when he gets the Simmons name back, an analogue Claptrap with MIDI would be great.

The rack version of this Clap Trap is neither a fake nor a custom built version. About 5 of those particular devices have been built at Musicaid

Wow! I guess that must make it one of the rarest Musicaid/Simmons
devices around.

I really must upload some tracks I've been working on with my Clap Trap.
I've been triggering it from the programmable accent output of my Boss
DR-55, which is how I think The Cure often used it. If your not familiar
with them, then the so called "Langham Session" that they recorded in
1980 are well worth checking out. Drummer Lol Tolhurst doesn't seem to
have been present, perhaps dealing with the consequences of his mother's
illness and subsequent death that happened around this time, so it
appears that Robert Smith and Simon Gallup recorded the session as a
duo. The songs were then rerecorded for my favourite Cure album, Faith,
where the Clap Trap is still in evidence on a number of tracks.

Joy Division/New Order also owned a Clap Trap, which was stolen along
with the rest of their equipment during their first tour of the United
States. I suspect the Clap Trap is responsible for the snare sound on
Decades, my favourite track from Joy Division's Closer album.

The Clap Track rack version has been built about 5 times, so it is neither a rip-off nor a prototype. It's "official" Musicaid
