reaching SDS-III status

70's electronic drums are very desirable at the moment. We know that...
Yesterday a Pollard Quad 478 sold at Ebay. 1725 USD. Not bad for a
freakish blue box that's over 30 years old. :)

(now, could someone find me a pedal for mine, please)

Hmm, just wondering what I would get for my mint condition Quad with mint pads, pedal, all original cables
and original box ?!?!
But it's not for sale anyways ;-)

I guess something in that region. Is it a 477 or 478? I have the 478
with pads, cables etc, but still misses the pedal.

Great piece of machinery though. Submarine pings to die for. :D

A few layout differencies (and I guess some of the insides too). The 477
has all the channel volumes grouped at the left and the 478 has the
independent volume with each channel.
477: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2434/3544539893_a3cef65486_m.jpg
478:

(Funny how the first "pollard syndrum" google image displayed is a
picture of my unit, posted by it's former owner.)

At least the 478 came with the Oddy-styled slider caps, which, like on
the Oddy mk3, Axxe mk2(?) and Avatar meant that they turned brittle with
time and broke. All mine are replaced with black "pips" like on Oddy
mk1. The 477 is the first too BTW, and seems a lot more rare.

And, congratulations on your birthday! :D

The slider caps are even more brittle than the ARP ones and I glued mine together again.
At least I found most parts of the caps in the cardboard box.
But even more interesting is the two different ULT Sound DS-4s.
I'm lucky to have both now and one is a custom version were you can link channels together
by pulling the mixer pots ! That's the coloured one, the black one doesn't come with this feature and
doesn't have the pad velocity tuning slider...kind of weird but even more versatile than the Pollard
where the Japanese probably got their inspiration from back in the day ;-)
You can see pics here : http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=737487933#!/album.php?aid=177384&id=737487933
Kraftwerk used the 477 Syndrum and you van see it in the panel of their rack on the Computerworld LP.
The drumsynth craze never ends ;-)
