replacement knobs for MTM

replacement knobs for MTM

2009-11-12 by jesper

Hi list,

my MTM (and another arriving soon I hope) is missing a few sensitivity
knobs. I tested the TMI dito but the shafts are too long. So... are
there any (preferably cheap crap) units with similar knobs as the MTM?

I guess everything in 1U design is out of the question? They all seem to
be designed as the TMI (i e SDS-1000, MTX9, SPM 8:2 etc).

cheers,

I may need to replace a pot on my STM1000. Do the knobs just pull off? Are they glued on? They seem pretty solid.

hi what is a stm 1000 do you mean sds 1000 if so the 1000 uses presets and not pots to remove the control knobs take the case off then using a pair of long nose pliers close the end and pull out the knob.

Re: replacement knobs for MTM

2009-11-14 by Susie

Oops - SDS1000 yes. It does use potentiometers - lots of them. Do you mean just grab the knob with the pliers and pull? Is there any danger of damaging the pot when you do that? To get the circuit board out I think I'll have to remove all the knobs, so I don't want to damage the good pots.

ok yes it has potentiometers but thay are vertical mounted presets i know i have two sds 1000s care must be taken when ever you repair any electronic parts with the top case off use the long nose pliers squeeze together the ends behind the preset and at the same time with other spare hand pull the knob forward this is why the knobs dont just pull off thay have a long shaft on which goes through the preset and clamp to the wiper.

Re: replacement knobs for MTM

Thanks for that. It looks like the PCB takes the strain when you pull off the knob, so thanks for the tip about grabbing the pot with pliers - I guess there's a danger of damaging the PCB by pulling too hard otherwise.

It looks like finding 3mm shaft pots is tricky, but I found a couple of different ones at Farnell - I've ordered both to see which gives the best fit- it doesn't look like either have a flat on the shaft so a bit of filing might be necessary.

If anyone knows where to get exact replacement 100k 3mm flat shaft 16mm pots then do let me know!
Cheers

Pearl question

2009-11-26 by Berk Aarts

Hello
i got these from a friend of mine
Pearl Syncussion SY-1
Does anybody know what they're worth (I know it's the Simmons Forum)
I like them a lot, but they need some work, want to know if it's worth the
trouble (and money)

Just the pads? Or brain and stand and bag and cables and manuals and... :)

> Does anybody know what they're worth (I know it's the Simmons Forum)

A lot if you just think soundwise. It's a great little unit with amazing
sound possibilities.

I'd say 3-400 euros for just the brain if it's in nice cosmetical shape.
The pads sell at around 50-100 but a complete set with everything could
be worth 6-700 euros.

I have the brain, pads, bag etc, but would love an original manual. :D

OK, but 250 euros then if you get it working.

I just want it - I love old manuals for my gear. :)

The church bell type of "clooooooonks" that baby can pour out cannot be
copied on any other machine. Controlling the pitch in by velocity is
hilarious and creative at the same time. Fix the baby up!
