SDS1000 VS SDS8 & SDS400

SDS1000 VS SDS8 & SDS400

2009-05-30 by xorsister

Hello there!
I have an SDS1000 too and have to say - it's a shame what noise/tone balance can't give me clear noise or clear tone (in analog part)..
only mix of them in different proportions, and i think it has stepped parameters (especially decay) because of memory..

I have choice now btw SDS8, SDS400 & TAMA TECHSTAR TS305 - all for nearly same price..
Which one better in analog part in your opinion?

Thanks!

Alien.

I own or have owned quite a few drum synths. However, the SDS-400 is not
among them. But in a race between SDS-8 and TS-305 (and this is like
cursing in church) I'd go for the TS-305 any day! I sold mine mostly
because of size. There are good stuff under the grey metal. It has more
raw power and also more "natural" sounds possible. The SDS-8 is more
"bonkish-sounding" and you often end up with those terrible disco-toms
with it. The rimshot of the TS-305 is still a favourite... Do _not,
however, mistake the 305 for the 306, which is horrible in most aspects
except the handclap.

My two ören...

Hello there again!

Thanks to your recommendations!
I'm actually take them both :) (SDS8 & TAMA TS305)
"Terrible disco toms" i really need in some of my production :)
Also SDS8 have quite nice disco BD (really deep and click is powerfull)..
Tama is truly monster (especialy for SD & RIM) and build like a tank!
Just can't understand what "emphasis" controls do..
Seems a bit like waveshaper and fully clockwise it gives some sort of 808 touch to the sound.
