Hey everyone.
I'm a long time lurker and huge Simmons fan and was hoping someone out there has the
ability to help me find or burn original Simmons eproms. Immediately, I'm lookng for an
original clap eprom for my Digital Clap Trap. I also have a few of the 20-85 expander cards
that I'd like to fill up with new sounds. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks.
Ed Rose

There's a collection of eprom files here:

No clapbox files that I could see. If you're just looking for that
sound, Puremagnetics has created product for Ableton Live that goes to
great lengths to recreate the Simmons Clapbox sound. It appears to be
free, but you need access to Ableton Live and the patience to extract
the sounds.

I need to buy eproms to burn for my SDS 7. I know I'm looking for 2764's and 27128's but there seem to be differences within those types of eproms. What do I need to look for and what should I avoid?
Thanks in advance.

From my experience, if you are using the EPB, do not use the 27C64 and 27C128, as they are CMOS and require a higher voltage to burn. Attempting this results in either a tick or pzzht sound no matter what the sample is. The only way I have found to get around this is to use a chip burner connected to a PC, and load the .bin files aquired elsewhere. Once burned, they work great in the Simmons gear.

Hope that helps.

Thomas

Hi Ed,

In my experience just about all are ok although no point paying top $ for individual chips on e-bay. Best bid or make an offer on a job lot of 'pulls' for best economy. I have bought about 100 over the years for my SDS7 and Oberheim DX and seldom had a problem beyond the odd bent leg.

Good Luck
Andy

As mentioned before... If you're into experimental music, don't forget
to check if there is something enjoyable on the eprom before erasing it.

I've even pulled proms from an old printer and there crunchy indeed! :D
