"video unavailable"

Was it something newly broadcasted? The TV channels are hunting youtube
with blow torch these days. (not that they shouldn't...)

They look to be a set of SDS-7's. I had a set IDENTICAL to these, back
in the mid 80's.

I think I first saw Simmons drums in the Kajagoogoo music video "Too
Shy" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3P6I4pT_tVA
<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3P6I4pT_tVA> . It was probably about
late 1984. I somehow found out that the New Zealand agent was Paul
(Emlyn) Crowther, a former member of Split Enz (see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emlyn_Crowther
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emlyn_Crowther> ).

I happened to be going to Auckland, so went and visited him, and he
demonstrated both the SDS-9 and SDS-7 to me. I asked him how much they
were, and he said: "I suppose you'll want wholesale?" to which I
answered "YES!". I remember I paid NZ$1,995 for a set of yellow SDS7's,
complete with Pearl hardware. I still vividly remember the day they
arrived. I used the drums mainly at Church, but in a smaller setting
they were difficult to control the volume in relation to other
musicians. I never used the factory settings, preferring my own sound.
I made my own overlay templates for my own sounds. At one stage, I hired
them to a local pub band "The Big Race" for a period.

Sadly, I sold them for $1,100 back in the early 90's. I must try and
track them down - they were totally awesome.

Cheers, Gwyn
