Fixin' toms

Fixin' toms

2007-08-03 by Ed Goldfarb

Hey, guys I¹ve got five small pads and one kick from the x00 range (single
zone, 1/4 outs) that, ahem, suffer from decreased sensitivity :-) In other
words, they¹ve had the heck beaten out of Œem, and barely work. I understand
that they¹re fairly simple devices inside, and was wondering if any of you
veterans can offer suggestions as to how to bring Œem back to life. On a
related note, is there anything that can be done to clean up the playing
surfaces and shells? Thanks in advance for any help!

Peace and love,

Ed

Betr: [Simmons Drums] Fixin' toms

2007-08-03 by Berk Aarts

I guess there are piezo transducers inside
just open the case/tom
desolder the old ones and replace by new ones
plastic casing can come to life with a mild carpolish (try on a small space
not to visible)
the rubber can be rubbed with vaseline, but you better have done that 20
years ago

good luck

If the black edges have turned that awful blue colour there's this
stuff in Australia called "Black Wax" which is for the hard black
plastic trim around car windscreens etc, hopefully you'll have
something similar where you are. Brought my SDS9 pads back to looking
good but six months on the blue is *just* starting to show again. I
figure repeated doses over time will do the trick. Just don't get
this stuff on the coloured shell - remove it first. For the playing
surfaces Armorall works a treat.

Cheers,
Ken.

ArmorAll is magic in a studio for exterior fixups. It works on plastic,
metall, wood etc. Trust me I've tested! When I sprayed my Chroma a lot got
on the wooden floor of our living room and that proved to be a hazard for at
least a week afterwards... slippery like hell!

Sorry, guys I¹m a little confused by the posts :-) Do I want to put
Armorall on the plastic exteriors, or the rubber playing surfaces? Or both?

Peace and love,

Ed
