SDS3/4 clone-Design rights?

SDS3/4 clone-Design rights?

2007-06-15 by randaleem

Hi,

I'm new here; hoping that someone might know how I could get
permission to clone the SDS3/4 drumsynths?

I read at Wikipedia that Guitar Center owns the rights to the Simmons
name. But I don't know yet if they have any prior circuit rights?

Anybody know any details?

I already have the information I need to do the clones; I'm looking
for the permissions to use the old circuit design.

ANY help will be very much appreciated.

Thank you,

Randaleem

Best idea I¹ve heard in ages. Put me down for one of each.

Cheers.

I don't know if anything in the Simmons circuits are patented. From
the schematics I've seen, there's nothing revolutionary going on, so I
really doubt it.

The trick would be letting people know you're selling an SDS3/4 clone
without using the Simmons name. That's when GC would get interested.

is done with other products

Hi guys,
I had been out of connection for a loooong time...

About the permission to clone , I think there's only one guy that we all know
that could say more about that ; Dave of course !

Guitar centre bought the name in USA, but I doubt they would have bought all the
SImmons patent that are probably still owning to Dave himself through Simmons
ltd / Simmons digital / musicaid or whatever ...Well let's hope for him it's
still the case !!!

I didn't talk to dave for a long time now but I can try to ask him.

As Michael said, if you're making only one model , who cares but if you're
starting to sell a few, who knows ...

well anyway , I 'll ask him &let you know as soon as I have his answer...

cloning an SDX you say ...hmmmm... I wish you good luck !!!
I dream that someone devellops all its limitations, but let's be realistic ;
it's a very huge beast ! with old components that made This sound ...
& quite a complicated operating system ...
would you clone a Fairlight CMI IIx ?
if so, I'm client !!!

Good luck,
Speak soon ,
Patrice.

I recall there is a guy in France who owns the schematics for the SDX?
hihi sorry Patrice
What I recall from memory is that the SDX is not to hard to clone
it has a 68000 processor on board ( kinda atari I guess) some converting
board and a shit load of components for 16 times input and output and a bunch
off electronics for the monitoring.

Perhaps easier said then done??

Rick Allen used all kinds off simmons modules and especially in the studio
would layer sound and sample them ( there were no budgetlimitations for Def
Leppard ( what a name?!) in their time). I have an interview in a dutch drummag,
perhaps if I find some time the next ten years I might kinda translate it
and put it online

Well of course, & they also used the Fairlight a lot so ...
But the SDS7 & 9 is quite recognisable (?) ...
& yes He probably used some AKAI samplers on stage after all this mixing
sources ...

( what a name?!) in their time). I have an interview in a dutch

it depends of the number of pages you need to scan ;-)

Yes, it works, but you have to whack the pads extremely to hear something. It is f.e. better to glue 2 piezos into the pad and to wire them in series to get a better output. For people who don't want to change their pads for this purpose a 3:1 transformer might be useful to increase the output voltage.
