It's more likely to meet Elvis alive and kicking http://www.elvislives.net/ Honestly: Generally it's not impossible that there will come an electric drum set that will be named "Simmons" BUT: Who cares? It will definetely have nothing to do with SDSV, SDS7, SDX & co. as it will have definetely nothing to do with Dave Simmons himself, therefore I wouldn't freak out and become horny meeting a new kit with the old logo but round pads (uhhh....) --- In Simmons_Drums@yahoogroups.com, "dajmando" <dajmando@...> wrote:

Sounds like the old hayman brand that disappeared in 75 and is now back with low budget acoustic and electronic kits. The electronic kits are also avalaible with the 'Fame' brand on it and are just crap. I wouildn't be surprised to see the same kit with a simmons logo. There seems to be a trend to use old, more or less succesfull, brandname and make it appear as a resurrection from the grave. (I very much doubt the new Lenco productline having anything to do with the old swiss turntables from the 70's). If this Simmons stuff was for real, I think it would have introduced itself somewhat more spectacular than in a forum where it was spotted by someone in a Guitar center (of all places!!) --- In Simmons_Drums@yahoogroups.com, "superwolle70" <superwolle70@...> wrote:

it's kind of funny that this was posted today ... earlier this morning i went to my local guitar center looking for a pearl modular stand for a couple of simmons toms ... i picked one out and the sales person, who i have gotten to know pretty well, asks me if i just bought a pearl kit? i told him what i wanted it for and he proceeds to tell me that guitar center bought the "simmons" name and new electronic drums under the simmons moniker are now being developed as we live and breathe. i immediatley asked about the brain and the hex pads but he didn't know specifics, only that they are being manufactured now and will be called simmons electronic drums. they'll probably be pieces of crap, no doubt.

I'd be far more interested to see a comprehensive 'SDS' v-synth - in the same style as Rebirth - lets face it, what 'new' things can possibly be achieved in drum synthesis - its the old sounds that we love. I'd rather have a portable, affordable and more userfriendly SDX (with usb/firewire) and 16 polyphonic outputs) till then I'm happy with what I got Can anyone help me out with another issue? I have an Korg S3 which I fucked up while replacing the memorybaterry. I forgot to keep it connected to a spare batttery. Now I got another one. Is it poosible to upload the OS from the new one to the original one?? BERK! How about schematics for the sillicon mallet?? Does anyone have them?? I'll pay for it if that's the issue ________________________________________________________________________________________ Wil je met mij knikkeren? they could have at least made cheap-ass hex pads, to give it some personality. Much like the Rogers name, this one has passed from legend into the slush pile. A real shame.

if that's what you want, find a copy of the VST Waldorf Attack. It's pretty great.

*giggles* Not a bad idea! A german guy I traded with a few years ago had made stickers with the original logo. I received three or so as a bonus with our deal. I stuck one to each rack blinds I had (1 U blinds, seldom use those now though) and one to a box I use for the eproms for my SDS-1's. Looks great! I've thought about the idea that when playing live re-labelling all gear with the wrong names would be fun. It sure could get the gear-heads in the audience something to think about... ;) electronically yours, jesper - -- --- ---- ----- ---- --- -- - www.electronic-obsession.se Order your own copy of the Machinepop/Imiafan split-EP at www.electronic-obsession.se/label.asp ----- Original Message -----

This whole thing is questionable. Who is it being marketed to? Us?! Anyone who¹d actually buy it probably could care less what name is on it, and anyone who wants a Simmons kit would be disappointed for the obvious reasons (stock round pads and typical sound banks though I can imagine there¹s - at the very least a ³classic hex² bank, you know in between the ³ballad kit² and the ³metal kit²). Also, is anyone else bothered/confused by their decision to use the old logo? Wouldn¹t the later one make more sense? Or a new one? I can nit-pick all day, but the issue really seems to be GC¹s perception of the Simmons brand not as innovators, or even evolutionary milestones in the development of electronic drums. ³Simmons² to them means obsolete, low-tech, entry-level, and not for ³serious² musicians (maybe a little flimsy nostalgia thrown in), which has been the position of music retailers ever since Roland, Yamaha, etc. rose to the top of the e-drum market in the 90¹s. It¹s going to go one of two ways: Total flop (fingers crossed), or ³Simmons² becomes the leading maker of toy kits. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

As both a graphic designer and a loyal Simmons collector, I wasn't surprised at all that Guitar Center is going with the 'heritage' SImmons logo (thin, all caps in a keyline capsule shape)--as opposed to the logotype the company used near the end of its reign (bold, chunky with underscore 'o') or a totally new logo altogether. The original logo embodies the heyday of Simmons, when they were the most popular e-drums on the planet. As a kid--before I was a musician--I'd see a cool black script logo on cymbals all over MTV. Z-something, I couldn't catch a long enough glimpse to read the name BUT I KNEW I WANTED TO BE A DRUMMER AND USE THOSE CYMBALS. Zildjian's logotype is so strong, it's hardly been touched for the life of the company. Guitar Center probably recognizes that if there's any mileage at all left in the Simmons brand, it's going to be in the hex shape of the pads and that original logo. And since these new drums are just being bought by GC from a third party vendor, the hex pads aren't an option. But the logo is, and I'm sure Guitar Center is going to leverage as much 'brand equity' out of it as they can. Long live THE REAL SIMMONS. cris Cris Logan 922 Presidio Avenue, #3 San Francisco California 94115 tel: +415 771 8897 mobile: +415 465 2543 hear the latest Little Yellow Perfect sounds and lies at www.myspace.com/littleyellowperfect
