SDX Harddisk operation

SDX Harddisk operation

2005-08-22 by tropeman2001

Hi Simmons-Lovers,

can anybody advise me how to deal with SCSI and the HD of my SDX ?
I tried loads of things, but can´t get it right.
Is there a way to partition a HD so I can use it as startup disk and
sound disk ? Also, is there anything to mention for the SCSI use ?
Any help would be appreciated :-)

I recently sold my SDX, but I also had an external SyQuest SCSI drive,
which used 270mb cartidges. The SDX recognized it immediately when it
was attached to the SCSI port on the back. I used the external drive
to back up my most-used kits and could load them all from that one
drive. The op system was on the internal SCSI drive, though.

You can't really partition a SCSI drive for the SDX, since the
operating system only recognizes 70mb (remember, that was HUGE for the
late 1980s). But I had the op system and lots of sounds on that one
drive well before adding the external SCSI drive.

Those SyQuest drives are CHEAP, work well, and I see them on EBay all
the time.

If you have the op system disc, perhaps you just need to reload it.
I'll bet Patrice has the answer. You can find his entries all over the
board here.

Good luck,
Jym

Finally I found it out myself and in case someone is interested :

To have both OS and Sounds/Patches on the HD, just save or copy with
FORMAT FIRST. This will make a new Disk on the HD each time you save
something. Works perfect now with my SDX 00016 (former Accept) :-)

PS. Still searching for some of the original sounddisks for the SDX
and the appendix documentation for the XSEQ and XEDIT.
Any help will be appreciated :-)

Ah, yes, THAT was the trick!

The trouble with the SDX documentation was this: to save something,
you use the FORMAT command, readily understood at Simmons to mean
SAVING.

In America, the last thing you want to do is FORMAT a drive, because
that wipes out everything. I actually had a phone discussion with a
British engineer about this years ago.

So, with the SDX, don't fear the FORMAT command.

Jym

Same in the UK. Very odd choice of terminology, that.

Does anyone have disk images for the SDX?

Gordon.

Re: SDX Harddisk operation

I have the xseq documetation and would love to trade for some of the
original sound disks. I am looking for the melodic stuff like horns,
piano, mallets, flutes etc. I also have a home brewed version of xseq
3.11 with the 2.1g pad software that I called 3.12. Let me know what
you have so we can work out a trade or something. Send your contact
information, I would be happy to send you the documentation
regardless. Here is a shameless plug for an ebay auction I am
holding, please check it out. Here is a link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/
eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7345161249&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%
3AIT&rd=1
Item #7345161249.
Have Fun,
Jeff

I have most of the original sound disks and would be interested in
trading for your "home brewed" verson of xeq and documentation. I'm
at work right now so I don't have access to my list of sounds. I'll
post them tonight when I get home to see if I have anything you need.

Thanks,

Lance
