Re: [Simmons Drums] SDS7 RACK EARS

2010-03-23 by Michael Buchner

I posted several times that the SDS7 is very sensitive to physical influences like shocks from transport. Remember, they called it "simmons cabasa". If somebody is so brave to risk a transport, he should wadd it into foam rubber and not attach rack ears.
In case of studio rack use, a large hum problem may show up. The SDS7 has the signal grounding on the metal box and no soft earth/ground lift. Another con is, that the rack ears would only screw to the lid of the box and I myself would not trust the static of this thin metal.
My tip: Screw an Akai Sampler into the rack and place the SDS7 on top of it! You don't need to use the Akai...

What about having repros made? I could check with the guy that made my selector pad bracket and see what they'd cost. Let me know if anyone is interested.
