yes Brian I fully agree...

but what I wanna point is :
where do we see everybody wanting it ? a few guys yes... a few  
fans ... a few people who like the sound.
but it's definitely not the 80's again.

I think the main reason people get excited about simmons & simmons are  
rare,
is that owners  never wanted to sell them for so low  having bought  
them for so much.
they are so rare , but so many has been sold ... Where are they today ?
ok so quite a lot  went also to the bin... so how many are really used  
today ?

Therefore I have to add that speaking with a spanish a technician- 
collector that wanted 1000e for a basic SDS7, he said that for him it  
was the componants spares that gave the value for them ...
So the CEM curtis I suppose...  & in a way why not ... ?
But as Jesper he's saying ... Whatever there is in it ... what can it  
do ?
& that's normally what the musician /DJ or programmer is expecting the  
most, without caring for the inside...

I guess that's a mixing of every influences that makes this craziness  
sometimes...

But what everybody is forgetting , it's the maintenance it will need  
very soon ... All that valuable SSM or CEM are probably closer to  
their death than ever.
The Eproms as well ... the capacitors all need to be changed 20 years  
later...

We're looking at that state points when buying a car ... negociating  
the price in function of the state of the machine which forces us to  
face a reality.
The musician forget about that reality I think. lost in the fantasy  
world of sound... so does  the collector ...
There is the cosmetic appearance... & the hours it played...   We  
shouldn't forget that when buying...

My both SDS7 need a big lifting to become reliable for example... If I  
paid the high price for them it would be exactly the same...
For the moment I have a possible source of sounds for recording & it's  
great... but impossible to bring it on stage...
So I'm really glad I thought twice before buying...
