I love the idea of mixing the two sets.  Hope that works out for you. 

I lost all my factory kits and all my favorite kits.  The brain is about 20 
years old also.  If you pack it away and do not turn it on at least once a 
month it will lose its settings.  As for how long the batteries will continue to 
function is anyone's guess.  You could solder in a battery case and add two 
rechargeables.  I wired two cases and have batteries in one case.  The second 
case will be when I change over so I don't lose the setting I am currently 
putting in.  This is very time consuming and I'm not sure I like all that I am 
programming now.  If you (I) work too long you get a little deft to what the sound 
really sounds like.
