8 bit samples can sound nasty but there are  ways of working around it. The 
problem w/ the EPB is it can't clone a chip. You  have to play the chip through 
a device (SDS-1 or other), passing the audio  through the units noisy output, 
through the noisy input of the EPB and all while  ensuring you have the 
sampling level set high enough w/out clipping. Pretty  cheesy. So, while it's a 
nice novelty (Even I own one but haven't taken it out  of it's case in yrs.) it's 
not to be taken seriously.
