Model 9 Mixer/Attenuator and Model 29 Dynamic Mult Released

Model 9 Mixer/Attenuator and Model 29 Dynamic Mult Released

2007-09-20 by (i think you can figure that out)

All,

Two new modules wil begin shipping in two weeks:

1) The Model 9 Mixer/Attenuator is the forth in a series of utility
modules from Plan B. A truly modular, multi-tasking 5 in, 3 output
mixer, it's balanced inputs are suited for either AC signals or DC
control voltages, or both simultaneously.

Along with these mixing options, each of the four main inputs channels
are fitted with dedicated Attenuator Outputs which allow access to the
leveled output from each channel by itself, independent of the mix.
Many thanks to Plan B Norman Fay for the steller idea of adding
independent post fader outputs.

2) The third in our utility module series, the Model 29 Dynamic Mult
is a unique 1-to-5 signal splitter in which four of the outputs are
equipped with manual level pots, allowing for both contour control and
signal distribution. The perfect companion for non-attenuated VC
inputs, the Model 29 requires no power supply connection to operate as
it takes it's ground reference from the cables patched into it.

I would gladly pay extra for an active version with bipolar attenuators
and voltage source capability (when no signal is inserted). Like
Syntesizers.com Q147 Distributor:

Jari,

If you're willing to pay more, then think about getting a Model 14
instead because it can do everything you've mentioned here :)

It would require a completely different circuit to do this with a M9.
Secondly, I feel having an automatic DC applied to the NC contacts a
questionable modification on an audio mixer because it would offset
your AC's symmetry (raise or lower it away from center). I'm not sure you want this.

Again, think about a Model 14 - I think this is what you're needing!

Yes, Jari,
Peter is right!
I'm using a Model 14, it is a great developement.
best regards

I was commenting on M29, which might benefit from active circuitry a
la Syntesizers.com Q147 Distributor. (BTW, I have a M14 already)

Re: Model 9 Mixer/Attenuator and Model 29 Dynamic Mult Released

Whoops! well, there goes that explanation...

No can do. The Model 29 is a completely passive circuit - no
electricity. The attenuators are as the should be for the cleanest
result - no power, they get their ground reference from the patchcords
connected to them. But since you've got an M14, again...you're doing
this function already.

One thing to keep in mind is outside of the M24, almost every VC input
on Plan B modules have bi-directional attenuators, so you're pretty
covered here if you stick to the 'family'.

Re: Model 9 Mixer/Attenuator and Model 29 Dynamic Mult Released

2007-09-28 by jalmari3

OK. Clean signal is important.

(M14 is useful, although I have these comments:
- I would prefer +100% or -100% gain for the attenuators at max/min
settings.
- Max output should go negative and Min output positive, like with
Doepfer A-172.
- XFade input should accept negative CV.)

Best regards
