TLN-712 Doomsday Machine panels, motm format

TLN-712 Doomsday Machine panels, motm format

2007-07-16 by sduck409

I've just posted a bunch of fpd designs for the new Tellun TLN0712 Doomsday Machine. (
http://www.tellun.com/motm/diy/tln712/TLN-712.html ) Four variations of the same basic
thing as designed by Scott Juskiw. Basically its his layout, but I've also done a version using
the larger led that is used in many motm designs. I've also done versions of both of these
with added hpgl tick marks around the knobs - I did this mainly as a learning
experience/exercise in torture, as I won't use these designs, as they add too much to the
price for my taste.

I've never done such a large scale effort in fpd - I've done some small mods to existing
designs, but this one was mostly from scratch. So if you see anything amiss. please let me
know, and I'll fix it. I'm not really sure about the size of the tick marks - they may be too
small. I haven't ordered these yet, so don't know how they look in real life, but the printout
looks ok.

Nice layout Steve!

$40+ extra for tickmarks, and the panel is already $66. Ow! This kind
of thing screams out for a silkscreen (you could have a screen burned
for about $40) given the interest.

Hello Scott? Doug?

Ah,well, I'm sure one of them will pick this and the Mankato up.
Looking forward to it.

I'll make you a panel for only $64.95...what a bargain! ;-)

> (you could have a screen burned for about $40)

Actually, I went to a larger screen and I'm averaging a half dozen
designs on one $40 screen, so setup costs aren't too bad - that's why
I don't charge setup fees for new designs - I figure it's just the
cost of doing business. I wait until I have enough designs to fill a
screen, but what with all the Tellun designs and the Thomas Henry
stuff going on, I'll probably make two, maybe three new screens in the
next week or two. It takes me longer to set up the jig to align
everything than it does to make the screen itself...

Of course, for something big like the Milton, P3, Midibox SEQ, or
MB808, I sometimes end up using one screen for each design. And the
MB808 has five colors, so there are multiple screens...

Ahhhhh.... you have a Midibox SEQ panel? Dude, you seriously need to
update the panel list...I've been contemplating spending way too much
on a panel for one of these - to the point that I shelved the project
until the money tree I planted int he backyard matures.

Hey Doug - OK, OK - we'd like a TLN-712 Doomsday Panel. But we also
want some others - a TLN-156 Neural Agonizer - a TLN-867 Tuner &
Headphone Monitor - a 120R - a 320R. So how do we order? <G> Bill

RE: [ModularSynthPanels] Re: TLN-712 Doomsday Machine panels, motm format

I was thinking of a 4U Doomsday Machine panel, using the PKES70 knobs
instead of the PKES60. The PKES70 are about 3/4 inch in diameter and a good
compromise between the PKES60 and PKES90. First I need to check on whether
Scott's 3U panel would fit the larger knobs.

RE: [ModularSynthPanels] Re: TLN-712 Doomsday Machine panels, motm format

I believe the PKES70 knobs would fit on my 3U panel, but there
wouldn't be enough finger space to actually grab onto a knob and turn
it (not comfortably, anyway). I don't have any PKES70 knobs to test
with, I'm just eyeballing it with a ruler.

A late contribution - here's a MOTM design based on what we believe is
completly standard spacing. 5U wide - but also therefore has space
for 4 jacks Scott Juskiw, when he reviewed this design, says he'd
taken off the 3U.

Re: TLN-712 Doomsday Machine panels, motm format - revised

2007-08-07 by wjhall11

Hi all - we got email from Scott suggesting a revision which we've
implemented. We had the scaling on the offset pots wrong - now
they're -5 to +5 instead of 0 to 10. Thanks much, Scott.
