Hi Doug - So we're really not bugging you (in a impatient way) about this - Do you figure you'll be making some "Stooge Panels" soonish for the MTOM-120R and MOTM-320R modules? If so we're particularly interested in having them drilled out for us - we lack confidence in our ability to drill them accurately. Thanks. Bill and Will

I'll be making the second run of panels in mid July when we get back from vacation. I've got you on the list, and I'll contact you when the shopping cart is enabled on the stoogepanels web site. Just select "drilling service" in addition to the panels before you check out... -- -Doug http://www.analognotes.com http://www.stoogepanels.com http://www.dougwellington.com

Good news, Doug! Should we be sending you our "wish lists" for the July run? Mike --- In ModularSynthPanels@yahoogroups.com, "Doug Wellington" <DougWellington@...> wrote:

> Should we be sending you our "wish lists" for the July run? The way I'm doing things is that I paint a bunch of panels in various sizes - the next batch will have about 50 2U, 30 1U, and 20 3U panels. Then I'll put them all in a cart on the web site. You pick the pattern(s) that you want, then I silkscreen the panels to order and send them out. I can also drill the holes for you. As time goes on, I plan to make smaller batches of panels more frequently. Next year (2008) I plan to add more CNC stuff, and if things go well, I'll be buying a laser for etching. And if dreams come true, I'll also be adding powder-coating facilities... -- -Doug http://www.analognotes.com http://www.stoogepanels.com http://www.dougwellington.com

Ah, I get it. Can you do a 10U panel? I've got a Milton that needs a panel. Thanks, Mike (Sorry list for the Semi-private mail, my mail to Doug doesn't seem to get there...) --- In ModularSynthPanels@yahoogroups.com, "Doug Wellington" <DougWellington@...> wrote:

> Can you do a 10U panel? I've got a Milton that needs a panel. As a matter of fact, I can make Milton panels. I'm actually building another Milton myself and I'm thinking of redesigning the Milton board set... :-) BTW, I think I have the email thing sorted out. I know I got a message from you over the weekend (I was with the in-laws for father's day) Mike, so I'll reply to that tonight when I get home, and we can talk more about the Milton panel too... -- -Doug http://www.analognotes.com http://www.stoogepanels.com http://www.dougwellington.com

I'm not sure I can speak for the whole list, but I'm sure there are members, other then just myself, that are glad to see these messages as it give us information on what is going on in the 'panel business'. Many of us are looking forward to future panel runs. Larry T.

OK, well, the quickie recap so far is: Stooge products: I'm leaving for vacation this Friday, and will be gone just over two weeks. When I get back, all the stooge brackets should be here and I'll start painting the next batch of stooge panels. Other items: I'm now making rack ears for the Access Virus, and I'm adding more wooden end panels - for example, I just got a Roland MPG-80, so I'm adding panels for that. I've got to fix a couple things with the modular cabinet design, but I hope to take orders for single and double row 22U MOTM-sized modular cabinets in early fall. I'm soldering together a batch of Miniwaves, several MOTM-sized StonZ, and a couple x0xb0xes for people, along with working on the new MB808, both soldering it together and designing the graphics for it. I have started transferring my Milton design changes off of the paper notes into Eagle and am making some changes to the Milton Stooge Panel design. In the repair department, I only have a Microwave I left on the bench, and I don't plan to take on any more repair jobs until after the next stooge panel run is completed and all the kits are soldered... -- -Doug http://www.analognotes.com http://www.stoogepanels.com http://www.dougwellington.com

Doug, tell us about the first Stooge panel run! I've been trying to watch carefully, but I never saw anything about this until past-tense references started showing up. Did I miss a bunch of emails from this newsgroup, or get abducted by aliens for a while? :-) I searched the group archives and didn't see anything. Seriously, I really want to buy panels so I don't want to miss the next run the same way. Thanks, skw

> Doug, tell us about the first Stooge panel run! Well, I made what I thought was going to be a decent-sized batch - 20 1U, 20 2U and 5 3U panels - mainly to make sure I had the process working properly. I've been using sort of the x0xb0x sales model to start - when people email me expressing an interest, I put them on my list, then contact them when the panels are ready and they can order as many as they want. Then I go to the next person and let them know and they can order, etc. In this case, I only got to the fourth guy before they were all gone! (Looking back, I suppose it might have been better if I limited orders to five or something, but this whole thing has been quite the learning experience for me...) My real goal is to build up a stock of painted panels over the next couple months so that I can take orders at any time and silkscreen on an as-needed basis... -- -Doug http://www.analognotes.com http://www.stoogepanels.com http://www.dougwellington.com

Hmm... you might need to ration. For example, I could use eight 1U, eleven 2U, a 3U and a Milton. That alone is a good chunk of your next planned run. Rationing could be fair. Or do a bigger run. Maybe get deposits, so you're not stuck with time and money in unsold panels. I dunno. This is a problem for all small custom order businesses, and I'm not sure how to solve it. Build to order can involve such long lead times that you lose sales or irritate customers and SDIY types are notoriously impatient. :) But unsold stock can sink you financially. When I did the cable buy (which required a number of custom colors, heatshrink, lengths and connectors), it was a real chore to keep it all straight. I ended up fronting the money at great risk that folks would drop out. Fortunately, everyone came through, although I don't know that I'd do that again without at least a deposit. Enjoy your vacation, knowing you can fulfill our SDIY fantasies when you return. ;) --- In ModularSynthPanels@yahoogroups.com, "Doug Wellington" <DougWellington@...> wrote:
