hello everyone!

so im finally ready to get crackin on my long delayed motm format
modular, and im wondering if anyone has suggestions on where to get a
cabinet for my modules?
i checked out the site for cabinets linked to off of bridechamber, but
if you try to add one to cart it says they don't have any. and so far
web searches have turned up little.
ideally i would build something myself, but i don't have access to
wood tools.
sorry if this isn't exactly on topic for this list, but this is where
i hang ;)
any advice is appreciated!

thanks!!

David at nice-racks.com can build you a stained/finished pine cabinet of arbitrary dimensions with metal mounting rails, no problem.  Contact him for a custom quote.

Do the synthesizers.com cabinets fit the MOTM format? I thought they did.

Not all that well, really. The MOTM mounting holes are a slightly
further from the top/bottom edges than those of Moog and dotcom
modules, so the mounting screws don't have quite enough wood to sink
into. The width and thickness of the panels are also different. THe
thickness difference is mainly an issue if you want to mix dotcom and
MOTM in the same cabinet, whereas the width difference means that
MOTM modules will not completely fill a row.

I'm changing over to rack mounts.

height wise, yeah, Dotcom and MOTM are the same...but the mounting hole spacing is different and you'd need to tap your own holes for MOTM modules in a Dotcom cabinet so as not to split the rails.  However, if pristine looks aren't particularly a necessity, you could buy a  cheap circular saw, a cheap drill and some wood planks from a hardware store and make one for half the price of a fancy finished professionally made one.  Plus ane extra cabinets would be cheaper once you have a few basic tools.

Orrr... both MOTM and Synthesizers.com offer standard rack mount rails so you can by any rack mount case and put them in that all nice and sturdy.

I used dot com cabinets.

http://pugix.com/synth/synthesizerscom-motm-cabinet/

The key part is the special Stooge rails. I don't know if anyone makes
these now.

Here's one way to do it in rack mount, but you have to deal with the
power supply:

Re: cabby

These guys make very inexpensive, lightweight cases that can be only 8" deep so fit a modular nicely...

http://www.tuffboxcases.com/

They are custom built, so call for pricing.

You'll need MOTM rails of course - I put them on front and back so I can mount power suppplies/distributors on back.

Note these are NOT high end... they are an inexpensive basic solution for mounting rack rails... but I like them.

Modcan also makes very nice WHITE MOTM formal MDF cabinets...
