Klee panels?

Klee panels?

2008-10-18 by Ben Stuyts

Hi,

I got a couple of Klee pcb's in (great!), and now I'm looking for a
front panel.

What's the status on Klee front panels? I've been looking through the
message archives, but couldn't find anything definite. There's been
some talk about sliders vs knobs, a pcb for mounting the sliders,
maybe a Bridechamber panel, some fpd designs...

A Bridechamber panel would be grand. :-) Scott?

Kind regards,
Ben

Frequency Shifter Panel uploaded, comments?

2008-10-19 by David Ingebretsen

I just uploaded a panel design for the JH FS-1A frequency shifter formatted
for a FracRack. I relied on Bill and Will's panel design as a great start,
but shrunk for a FracRack size. This is my first venture into designing a
panel and would welcome comments regarding spacing, placement, etc. I think
I've left room for the pots, jacks, etc. I've chosen, (13mm pots, 3.5mm
jacks except for the mic in and an aux in).

Thanks

Klees are still coming, by the way, but it's looking like January.
That will also have the MFOS Seq, CVS, LPGs, Ian's TZVCO, etc.
Just needed to get some money to initiate the order of big metal. Sorry
for the delay!

That is good news.

Who has LPG pcbs ? Since BC is doing panels somebody must be doing pcbs. Anyone who
knows please tell me.

I’d love to get a couple of Klee panels w/sliders if possible.  I’d even front the cash. These would be for standalone (or easily workable) Klees, right? I’m not currently rockin’ the large format.

Great! I'll take two. :-)

I hope we'll have a discussion then about the layout, sliders vs
rotary pots, format (MOTM for me please), etc. I've seen so many
wonderful layouts by now, it's hard to choose.

I think sliders look cooler, but rotary might adjust easier?

Re: Klee panels? Quad Low Pass Gate PCBs

2008-12-15 by Cynthia

I have a few Low Pass Gate boards available
for sale at $60.00 ea. They're double-sided
with plated through holes and have the actual
part values silkscreened on them instead of
part numbers so no other documentation is
necessary. They have most of the resistors
(5% type) installed already and are Lead Free
boards.

Quad LPG boards $60.00 US each,
Free Shipping within CONUSA, else, please
add $15.00 US for international shipping.

Paypal.com to cynthia.webster@...

These ship from stock this week.
Quantities limited so only (2) per customer.

Thanks and have a great Holiday!

RE: sliders vs. pots

We have already been over this several months ago. We were leaning towards sliders until Thomas White came up with his beautiful layout(with pots) and that was that. It is MOTM format and (I believe) 7U wide.

Re: Klee panels?

2008-12-15 by sduck409

The big jump in LPG interest is because of a pcb run group buy that Thomas White did in the
Electro-music.com forums - see http://electro-music.com/forum/viewtopic.php?
t=29016&sid=7986fcfdafd5b84560938a56a769578f - and it's sold out. I believe the panels
that Scott's making is for these - I don't think Cynthia's quad pcb's would be right, as they're
quad units, and Thomas's design is single gates per pcb.

correct! I bought 4 boards, but then got the MakeNoise QMMG so doubt I'll
use these now.
all 4 for $60 shipped in the US-paypal. I paid $40, sorry for less than
$60ppd I think I'll hang on to them. understand if you think it's high but
with paypal fees and shipping I'm only making like 5 bucks.

[ModularSynthPanels] low pass gate panels

2008-12-15 by Scott K Warren

It seems to me that a single LPG is pretty lean for a whole module, at
least in MOTM format. I would hope that Scott makes a quad or dual
front panel along the lines of the Stooge panel:

http://www.wiseguysynth.com/larry/panel/gif/cyn_quadlopasgate.gif
and
http://pugix.com/synth/cynthia-quad-low-pass-gates/

If dual is desired, the Stooge design can be neatly cut in half. Since
I'm getting Cynthia boards I'd rather see a quad panel, but if Scott
goes dual only then I would buy two dual panels per Cynthia board. I
wouldn't buy any single LPG panels.

It seems likely that purchasers of the electro-music boards could
mount two or four of them behind one panel, although I haven't checked
the size of those boards.

My two cents worth,

skw

Re: [ModularSynthPanels] low pass gate panels

2008-12-15 by thomas white

Hey folks,

Don't forget, that unlike the original Buchla design,
this PCB has "resonance" added with an onboard mixer
for CV's and an onboard mixer for audio. This allows
the end user to create what they want. Add that to the
fact the board takes different speeds of Vactrols and
the hole thing is fairly flexible to the end user.

For example, slower Vacvtrols like the VTL5C4 lend to
a dual space MOTM with 3 inputs (audio) and 2 CV
inputs. The end result is a filter with Vactrol
characterstics (like a sort of rubbery lag on things).

Single units can be built into 1 space MOTM panels
with knobs descending from the top of the module like
this:

Knob 1 - Offset (Freq)
Knob 2 - Resonance
Knob 3 - Level (can be CV or Audio input)
Knob 4 (or switch) - Rotary 3-Pos or Toggle 3PDT
Top 2 jacks - 2 CV ins
Bottom 2 jacks - In/Out (audio)

I think all of my PCB's have made it to the end users
or I am sure I would have heard something by now. Any
left I will sell on a first come/first serve bassis
per the Elctro-music.com forum post listed below. Many
thanks!

Thanks, I have missed that. I'm looking in the files section, and
found it:
Thomas White KLEE Rotary Design.fpd 7-Space KLEE Sequencer - MOTM Format

I have a little trouble downloading from the Yahoo file section ('file
doesn't exist' errors), but I'll try later.

Thanks.

Re: low pass gate panels

A dual version of the LPG board would be very practical, with a matching panel of course.
A quad would be overkill for most of us I think, although very useful for densely populated
systems. A lot of us split the difference between east and west coast systems but that is a
different story.

The quad LPG board can be built half-populated, no? A dual board wouldn't cost much less. Meanwhile...

Thomas obviously worked hard on the quad board. It seems like a stretch to ask him to take on the tasks of designing a new board, ordering a small test run (for quality control), testing it, and then organizing a separate "group buy", ordering the PCBs, and shipping them. The return is pennies per hour of labor, if not zero.

No disrespect to the original poster, but I wonder if people realize how much work goes into creating and delivering PC boards.

Hi all,

All factors of boards were considered in my design.
Quad was first thought, of course, due to Buchla's
original design. Then I though about the
implementation of my dual Borg filter. In the end it
came down to making the most flexible PCB possible for
all to implement in what system they saw fit to.

MOTM size would limit from small panels somewhat,
Doepfer spacing was already being done by Peter at
Plan B and Dieter at Doepfer... out. So I made the
smallest PCB I could including the best set of
features I wanted "selfishly" like the extra onboard
mixer sections for CV and Audio ins. These have been
well received thankfully.

One final note, the PCB is only 2.5 by 3.5 inches and
is the same width as a business card is long. Small
enough to meet my original goal. You can see by the
posts on electro-music that this decision has worked.
There have been dual, triple, and single formats in a
variety of shapes and sizes. I am sure there are more
too, but I do know that many boards are sitting in
everyone's large "to do" piles of PCBs.

Many thanks to all who purchased a PCB. The project
was a great success. Electro-music got some funds to
maintain the website, we all got nice PCB's that work
without any reported bugs (yet), and my time spent has
been vindicated with a level of satisfaction from many
who have wanted a Lopass Gate in his or her modular.

Happy holidays DIY-project-heads, Scott at B-Chamber
will have great MOTM panels for us soon!

Oops! I confused the [recently-discussed] Cynthia quad LPG with Thomas's single RLPG board.

However, that doesn't detract from my main point regarding the amount of work that goes into getting boards shipped.

Nice work, Thomas, and thanks again!

A quad board would be fine. For me a quad unit would be great. My question is whether
anything at all is available. If Tom's board is available that would be great.
