group, panels, stuff

group, panels, stuff

2008-08-29 by Scott Deyo

Hello All,

(Preface: I heard the request for a Bridechamber group, but I'm not
going to do that right now. Too much going on, and there's not a lot of
other stuff going on here. That should be heard as a call to all
silkscreeners and such -- tell us your techniques! Chime in! Post more
FPE designs! Any format is welcome, even custom stuff, footpedals, rack
gear... bring it all on, this is a DIY-centric list.)

Panels are being silkscreened and should be available next week. Check
the site for layouts and prices. Feel free to pre-order; panels have
been running out lately, which many of you are already painfully aware
of. Sorry about that. I'm tryin'.

I've started working with a second metal fabricator, so that we can get
a move on the JH stuff, the "big guys" (Klee, MFOS Seq, CVS), and keep
my original fabbers going on existing designs, easy new stuff, and
DotCom.

Check out the site generally for new PCBs from YuSynth (Diode and
Transistor Ladders, etc.) and...

Ian's new DoubleDeka Ultrasonic VCO is on the way. The metal design is
still being worked on -- no mistakes allowed!!!
Check out the teaser page --
http://www.bridechamber.com/bridechamber.com/DD%20Tease.html
There are some sound samples on the E-M forum too.

The reason I've been hitting it hard lately with new products -- We're
expecting a baby boy next month. Things will definitely slow down then.
So if I've been a bit of a list hog, that will probably change soon.
: )
Wheeee!!!!!

Holy Guacamole Fatman!! That VCO is Nuckin Futs fo' shizzle!!!  I'm so glad now that I didn't particularly bother to waste a whole years worth of spending money on a Zerocillator now...patience is a magnificent trait I usually lack.  Not dogging the Zerocillator, just not a rich man by any means:)

Re: [ModularSynthPanels] BIG group, BIG panels, BIG stuff

2008-08-29 by James Elliott

You know which would be the witch's tits??? if you (Scott D.) could get a panel going for the future MPS (mega percussive synthesizer). There are a TON of people lined up waiting on that PCB to be released. If you could work it out with Thomas Henry on a release date, you could have a sure winner on your hands.

http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-21279.html&postorder=asc

just a thought.

Took me a while to find 'em, but you can hear some wicked samples HERE
and if the fancy hyperlink doesn't work, just do a search on the electro-music forum for "doubledeka" and it'll be the first thread.

Just out of asinine curiosity...would it even be worth my time and
frustration to try and build a Doubledeka without an oscilloscope?
I got a pretty decently accurate range out of the oscillator section
of my Bi-N-Tic with just a multimeter and just wondering how finicky
this beast will be.

Re: [ModularSynthPanels] Re: group, panels, stuff

2008-09-11 by Scott Deyo

There are only two trimmers, v/ oct and hf trim, so it's just as easy
as any other oscillator. Ian designed a great core that spans 15
octaves at .05% accuracy at very high frequencies. The rest of the
circuit is digital division. The octave switches switch between rungs
of a 4024, so there is NO trimming for those! That Ian is one clever
fella.

So... no 'scope needed, though it would be nice to look at w/ the
slider-drawn waveforms of course.

HPGL for Logic gate symbols

2008-09-14 by David Moylan

Long shot maybe but anyone out there happen to have HPGL files of common
Logic gates: AND, OR, XOR?

I'm trying to do a panel for the CGS Quad Logic gates.

Thanks.

Dave

Re: [ModularSynthPanels] HPGL for Logic gate symbols

2008-09-14 by Richard Brewster

I labeled the inputs as A and B and the outputs of my Quad Logic Gates
as A+B. I meant the + symbol to be generic, knowing that I might change
the chip, which indeed I did.

http://pugix.com/synth/catgirl-synth-pulse-divider/

I recommend using an I.C. socket for the logic chip, so that you can try
different ones. My favorite is the CD4077, XNOR. I use it often as a
pulse inverter (mine go +/-5V) with just the A input and the A+B
output. It does digital ring modulation using both inputs.

Remember, all four gates use the same logic. You would need multiple
Quad Logic Gate boards to have a selection of different logic. Still,
you can combine logic using the quad. For instance, if you patch an
XNOR out to the A input of a second XNOR, the second's output is XOR of
the first's inputs.

Right, but + usually means or in boolean logic so it's quite correct,
and I do have multiple boards I'm going to wire up. If I had a flip
flop module I could even have a patchable state machine. Wish I could
have patched rather than breadboarded in college....

Sorry, meant to say it's _not_ quite correct or only correct in the OR
case and since I have multiple boards I need to be able to differentiate.

Did anything ever come of this? I have 3 PCBs and would love to buy 3 panels from BC for them...

i'm too busy to do this, but what i think would be a good idea for
this module is to use sliders and a front panel PCB. i'm normally not
really into sliders, but here the number of controls is so large that
to use the whole module would require quite a bit of panel acreage.

-There is a way to bring the costs of bigger stuff down. I am doing large panels for someone and I was given the choice of a panel (very expensive) or an adhesive thick flexible metallic membrane with printing and punching that can be overlaid on anything metal, wood, plastic and because it is metallic can act as a ground plane. It was one third the cost of a panel and the vendor offered to place the overlays if I supplied the punched/drilled panel blanks.

Looks like 5U, standard MOTM spacing, huh? Shouldn't take long. I've got a few others up soon, but may try to sneak it in with some more time-consuming designs.

That would be great... I think you'll find that people bought these in quantity.  I have six PCBs waiting to be built.  JH's projects have priority right now, but then I'm on to the e-m projects.
