Current Panel Run...

Current Panel Run...

2008-01-30 by James Elliott

Scott, what is due out in this current panel run? I need to determine what parts I need to order if you are releasing something I haven't already built.

Also, have you decided what the next run is going to be?

Hopefully:
CGS VCO
CGS Sub
CGS Steiner
CGS Burst Generator
CGS VC Divider
CGS CV Cluster
etc etc etc :)

I'm interested in the following (MOTM format):

2 x Oakley OMS-410
1 x JH Triple Chorus
1 x Tellun Sword of Kahless

With kind regards,

Grant released the #3 standard Wogglebug schematic on his DIY web site and
has posted appreciative comments about folks who built their own. I would
assume from this that DIY panel efforts are fine. The Production
Wogglebug is revision 5 or 6 at this point, and it's a dual unit with
extra circuitry for the child tones and (I believe) more outs and ins than
the #3.

If you're really uptight, you should ask. He may not respond within the
day or even the week but he will respond :)

From what I've heard, Grant's not hard to reach by phone. Have you heard of the telephone? It's a fantastic invention that allows 2 (or more!) people to converse over long distance in real time.

Email has become so commonplace that people seem to have forgotten that we can actually speak to each other. Pick up the freakin' phone! :-D

Heck, the Wiard site basically says that you should call:

From Grant:

"From a legal standpoint, publishing the design enters it into the
public domain and removes my right to request "cease and desist". It
is rather flattering that someone made a PC board and someone else
made a faceplate. A "business" needs about 1 million a year in cash
flow, anything else is an obsession or a hobby. So Mr. Deyo's public
service work bring Wogglebugs to the disadvantaged, doesn't qualify
as a business in my mind. There is no comparison between the
published work and what is in the modules (the modules have two #5
standard Wogglebugs plus more)."

Therefore, proceed :)

cheers,
Paul

Alrighty then : )

And as far as phones, I don't like 'em. Never did. An email, you get
it, you have some time to think about your answer at your leisure, you
send your reply.

Maybe Grant (for example) is just digging into a bowl of Cocoa Crisp or
BooBerry, and the phone rings. Then some git is going on about
WoggleBug junk, and his cereal is getting soggy. Or maybe he's burning
his Brett Favre stuff (he's in WI, no?), muttering "Why? Why? Why? Why?
He had the wrong jersey on! Why did you pass it to him? Why?" and some
MN guy calls about the 'Bug... not good.

Right. This isn't the place to argue the merits of phone vs. email,
but email is often used inappropriately, it's a very inefficient way
to have a dialog, and just because the phone rings doesn't mean that
you need to pick it up -- that's what answering machines are for.

And Scott, I'm a little concerned about a guy who (a) doesn't like to
talk to people and (b) panics when the phone rings. Call me within
the hour or your Mankato privileges are revoked! ;-)

John

(Of course I am kidding -- please sell a lot of Mankatos.)

As the resident agoraphobe, email scares me far less - and caller ID
helps a lot <G> - and then, of course I can always get Will to answer
the phone if it absolutely can't be avoided otherwise <LOL>. But yes
- back to panels - In the next run, I think we're going to need the JH
Krautrock Phaser panel, right? Also any thoughts about a group buy of
the 7V lamps and panel-mount lamp holders? We'll need to get them
from Europe. Bill

2008-01-31 by Scott Deyo

Well, I don't agree w/ the one million number, but otherwise, yeah. The
Bridechamber is not a business, per se. It has to make me some money to
be that : )
And it needs proper documentation, timely updates, and to be more, in a
word, professional.

We just sold our bakery, which brought in 1/2 mil per year. That works
for a small shop, but not really a technical business.

I'd be interested to know how many modular companies are full-time. I
think most are part-time, while a day-time tech job pays the actual
rent.

I may be the only guy w/o a cell phone ; )

No one's really taking this seriously, I hope. I didn't even think
anyone was really reading it!
Let's talk modulars!

So, we're doing the 'Bug. Are we doing a dual w/ the ring mod outputs
or just singles, and people can use separate ring mods? Is there a
mock-up out there? I know Richard Brewster made one. Thoughts, anyone?

Too few emoticons...

2008-01-31 by Grant Richter

I did not mean it to be condescending or offensive to anyone. I try to treat everyone with
respect and kindness. I do apologize if anyone was offended, it was unintentional.

I had no expectation that my private correspondence would be published, since copying
text from private correspondence and posting it on public sites can be the basis for a
lawsuit.

My private e-mail to Paul was supposed to be funny, that is wry wit or dry humor. Very
hard to get through in text where you can't see my tongue in my cheek. I have to be more
careful and use more emoticons. But I would have thought that naming something a "#3
Standard Wogglebug" would be a clue that humor and engineering coexist happily at
Wiard.

The quote about 1 million a year is from an accountant who did not want to even talk with
me because Wiard is much too small.

And really, "bringing Wogglebugs to the disadvantaged" is just so ridiculous, how can
anyone not laugh at that. Those who are actually disadvantaged need food and shelter.
The last thing they need is a Wogglebug, which you can't eat or even burn as fuel.

I hope I cleared up any confusion. Happy Woggling!

actually i have this crazy thing that fits IN MY POCKET that allows
me to call long distance for no more than i pay for local calls. it's
incredible.

and no, it's not a blue box.

funny that the guy who paid his way through college selling devices
to allow you to make long distance calls at a local rate by
manipulating the phone company technology has now come full circle
and is doing it again. even manipulating the same phone company's
tech at that matter.

on a different note, John's sarcasm is actually not sarcasm in a day
where phones do everything from take photos, send email, and play
MP3s. even the aforementioned blue box salesman has a product that
does everything their phone does, but without the phone part. funny
enough, i'm more excited about the iPod Touch than i am the iPhone.

my cell phone is _just_ a cell phone. it's an LG Touchpoint 1100. i
don't ride the smart phone train. the route map confuses me.

That's a good point.
If I sent an email from my cell phone, is that OK for everyone?
Is texting an email or a phone call? Not that I'd know how to text
someone, but I've heard of it. It's as real to me as unicorns. I've
heard about 'em.

And no matter what, heck, we're just talkin'.

The best thing is, now you're on the group, and you'll get all these emails! ; p

I did not mean it to be condescending or offensive to anyone. I try to treat everyone with
