hadn't got himself arrested yet again for going down t'pub in drag

never been able to figure out why. He doesn't even bother shaving his
legs. It's all very sordid and grotty.
And there you have the rest of the story...

I like how they cut out the faceplate from an old M400 to open a window for the LED indicator. I assume that will not be on production models…
The noise is not surprising considering the torque needed to move all those tapes. How load is a Mark I or II when it cycles?

Wow.
Has everyone checked out the latest? JB demonstrates the cycling option
on the M4000 prototype.

So, I'm guessing that the M4000 is a cycling M400, something we discussed on
this list 5 years ago. If that's the case, this will greatly expand the
sounds available without the need to keep buying more tape frames, while giving
you the ability to switch sounds on the fly (sort of).
Congratulations John and Martin, from what I can tell by looking at these
little glimpses, you've created something very useful. When can we expect
more details?
BTW, is the cycling as loud as it sounds in these clips?

The venerable "Julia" (MK-I #124) is fitted with Meccano
chains and driving equipment. It seems to my ears to be a bitquieter than the larger roller Reynold chain of MK-II, SFX and M300models. The MK-I inching for example, is a series of muffled pulses,vs. the tick-tick-tick of other early Trons. To those of you who visited the M-Ranch and saw both MK-I and
MK-II models side-by-side, how do they compare noisewise ??I'd like to hear your comments about this.Cheers, -- Jerry Korb (noisy only when eating Mexican cuisine,
or authentic Philly Cheese Steaks)

JB demonstrates the cycling option on the M4000 prototypeDear All,Actually that is my finger and West Country accent. Rest assured the apparent noisyness is due to the AGC on the camera winding itself up to the max. Leaving the keyboard off and the lack of a lid don't help. From memory it is about the same as a MkII.It was filmed down in Gloucestershire during the final integration of the software. Software in a mellotron - whatever next...Anyway all will be revealed very soon...Norm

I also have a schizophrenic M400. It has the serial #497 etched into
all the metal parts, then scratched out and #500 etched near the
original numbers:

I'd love to know where the other #497 is. Maybe it's even some famous ashes!!

Hi All- I have noticed that some 400's have what appears to be a decal
on the left cheek block. Dave Kean has one with it as does your's, Mark.
Is this a decal applied by Mellotron and if so, what does it read?

> It's a magnificent, magical instrument. It completely blew me away. Everything makes sense, it's easy to use, has amazing sounds, is effortless to play..
>
> It's ... HEARTBREAKINGLY good.
>
> I want one, obviously. So will everybody who gets to meet one. It's one of the finest things I've ever played and certainly the best Mellotron yet. >
> You'll be grateful that you were allowed to buy one with mere money..
