Zappa ever use a Mellotron?
If so, which album?

And, what do you think of the VST plugin M-Tron?

Thank you for your time.

Hi,
I think for the price M-tron is pretty good. Some sounds don't
sound quite right and there's some ambiguity in the names they
call them. (eg brass isn't quite tronny enough for me) and the
roughness of some of the tapes they use shows occassionally -
                       but for the price...?!

I'm pretty sure he never did (which surprised me-- his counterpart, Capt.
Beefheart used one - totally dry flutes and 3 violins- on "Doc At The Radar
Station"). I have about 20 of his albums (most from the 60's and 70's) and
have yet to hear one. Lots of Organs (farfisas, hammonds), Electric Pianos,
Acoustic Pianos, and later on, synthesizers.

I just saw the Baby Snakes DVD last month and one of the two keyboardists
has this huge modular synthesizer in his keyboard set. Have no idea what it
was though. Not a moog from what I can tell. Anybody know?

i have just about everything frank ever did, and i can't recall
EVER hearing a mellotron. he also seemed to be able to acquire
the REAL instruments and players when he wanted them, so it
have just been unnecessary to use the mellotron to "imitate"
instruments that he had "in the flesh" as it were...
and i don't recall ever seeing one listed on credits either...
never saw one in george duke's rig, tommy mars' rig, or with
other keyboard players that he used through the years...

It's a custom E-mu system that's now in a museum in
Paris.

Was that the same E-Mu system (if you happened to catch it) that Radiohead
used on Saturday Night Live back when they were promoting Kid A (they played
"The National Anthem" and "Idioteque").
