Opeth "Damnation" CD

Opeth "Damnation" CD

2003-04-04 by mellotrongirl

Anyone hear this one yet? Quite a melodramatic performance from a
quartet of Swedes known primarily for their whiplash core metal
delivery. Plenty of Mellotron strings and choir, and, according to a
recent review in Outburn Magazine--even a Porcupine Tree connection
and a purposeful early '70s vibe--right down to the partial
production in an analogue studio.
(And---looking at the pictures---where did one of the members get
that great Vertigo swirl label tee shirt?)

Sounds good between Dredg and Aereogramme to me!

Steven Wilson from Porc.Tree produced and played Mellotron, I believe. I'm
not sure what the deal is with his owner ship of one, but it's turned up on
the last several PT albums, plus his IEM side-project. Actually, a mate of
mine knows him well enough to have written sleevenotes for an archival
release, so I'll try to get more info.
