RE:Bob Seger

An interesting anecdote...In the early 70s I performed in a band
called STARGATE around Ohio and Michigan doing prog covers and
top 40,plus some originals.I had my M400 #328 along for the ride.We
opened for Bob Seger at a club on Lake Erie one night and we were
doing "Court Of The Crimson King" when Bob entered the club.He stood
and watched us a long while. Later he came up to me and shook my hand
and said..."Man,that mellotron sounds great!" Not too long after,he
was using one on his lps, including "Turn The Page". I think it was
played by Craig Frost (who later played with Grand Funk?).Bob was also
the nicest guy in his whole band...strange to think that watching me
play my tron influenced him to get one, perhaps?

That is a very *cool* anecdote, Charles!

Thanks for answering my question about who played it, too.

This is a dumb question, but is there a lot of tron in Seger's albums of
this time? You just don't hear him mentioned much.

Your band played Crimson stuff? Yikes, that must have pretty neat. Can't
imagine a prog cover band, except one that would play to the same small
(niche) audience. But for one brief shining moment, prog almost went
mainstream then. ELP albums going gold. Must have been cool. I barely
remember it, but it made its mark on me, that's for sure.

Thanks for that story,

Bill
