Has anyone purchased the exhaust headers from Rory for their V6? I need to know how well they fit and also if any cutting of the fiberglass needs to be done. Also if any noticeable performance increase. Thanks. Don Lattimer #3M5759 Willits, CA, USA

Don, Yes you need to trim down the inside of the tunnel basically parallel to a frame member running there. Maybe 1.5" inckes by 10" by 8-10" is what I recall removing. The header mates to the engine fine and seems to line up to the current exhaust after shortening it some to make up for the extra header length. Dan Orie may have more information. Hey Ed, How's everything up your way? Still keeping track of us I see. Good to hear from you. Have you another Marcos yet?? I do remember the cut-out you had done. I heard a rumor that they had re-designed them to eliminate the cutting. Guess I ought to contact MHS directly. Hello Don, I hope they redesigned it, because even after cutting and shaping the footwell area to work around the new header, it still comes within 1 1/2 inches of the fiberglass. I bought some of the header-wrap heat reducing tape to cut down on the heat intrusion into the cockpit, but it's still not quite finished so I can't say if it will work effectively. Judging by the header design, I would guess that there would be a small performance gain, but definitely not worth altering the footwell area. If the rumor isn't true and they didn't redesign the headers that I have, then I would do my best to get the original ones fixed if you are having a problem with them. Does anyone know if it's true that the Essex v6 headers were designed especially for the Marcos? On a side note, it's hard to believe that I've had my Marcos nearly two years and haven't got it on the road yet, but two moves and two job promotions really slowed my anticipated progress. I did use a picture of your car as a screen-saver on my pc to give me inspiration and something to shoot for. Dano in Daytona 3M5463

Hey Don,
I wonder that since the headers are the same but just turned around, shouldn’t they still be available for a cheaper price? It amazes me that the Essex V6 was used in some many different vehicles, but locating parts for it can still be a problem.
The engine seems to be running much better now. During my move over to the new house a mile or so away, the car ran fantastic, and cornered like the wind – but it sounded like a recent night in Baghdad without any mufflers attached. It’s possible something could have been in the fuel system when I had the initial problem, and seems to have cleared up on its own. When I do get more serious you can be sure I will be contacting you for more advice.
Thanks,

Hey Dano!
Great to hear you got promoted (all the more money for the Marcos). I'll definately contact Rory and see what the deal is on the headers. The original cast iron headers on the Essex V6 were swapped to the opposite sides so that the exits are facing forwards instead of to the rear (like a normal vehicle) so they would fit the Marcos chassis.
Did you get the engine running properly? I put a Pertronix electroic ignition on mine and it's great! Let me know if you need help with the V6, I'm getting pretty well acquainted with it!

I contacted Rory and here is his response: <<<Regarding the 3 Ltr metal chassis Exhaust Manifolds, yes you will need to modify the left hand footwell, you will need to move the fibreglass in board by the width of the chassis tube, i.e 1.5 inch. It is a simple operation, and can be done in situ quite easily.>>> Now, is it worth it?? Hi Don
Doing the fibreglass work itself is not that bad but working
underneath the car would certainly give me a rash in more ways than
one.........my 2 cents

I guess it depends on the options. If I had it to do all over again, I'd check into the availability of the original headers - or at least seeing if repairing the original header is possible. Either way, it would probably be cheaper than buying the new headers from Rory. Plus any modification that requires altering any part of the body to make a new part fit detracts from the car in my opinion. Though it probably wouldn't be noticed when done correctly, why do it at all unless it gave a significant gain in performance? Dano in Daytona 3m5463
