Hi./ Questions re: Teisco 100P aftertouch remedies/response.
2008-01-25 by John Brod
Hi folks. I just joined the Kawai-Teisco group. MY name's Tony, and I just became the dubious 'winner' of an eBay lottery "Teisco 100P".
I say 'dubious' because although MOST things on the 100P work, two do not: the reverb (no effect at all); and the aftertouch is so hard to get working that honestly my fingers are hurtin'! :-)
Any advice? It looks like I'm going to have an eBay 'dispute' on my hands--not a welcome prospect, since the seller's in another country....
Yes, I realize that after 30 years the aftertouch elements (foam?) tend to wear out. On the other hand, the seller said, that 'everything's working well'.
Any advice would be welcome.
By the way, one good thing I've discovered is that the Teisco 100PM does indeed sound quite a lot like an ARP Pro Soloist -- which is what I'd been hoping for. (I particularly wanted to get aftertouch "growl" + filter + vibrato, and that's all there in ARPy glory, on the Teisco 100P. Now if only my fingers weren't now in need of Tiger Balm, from pressing so hard....)
If anyone in the Kawai-Teisco group knows of fairly easy fixes for the aftertouch, please let me know. [I'm hoping that, if I bring the Teisco 100P to a synth tech, he might be able to insert a different resitor or capacitor, that will boost the aftertouch response level - -without buring out the circuits, of course! :-) ]
Thanks much. Oh, if I may mention one other thing. There was another Kawai/Teisco synth (the 400xx? perhaps?) that had aftertouch, and four voices, with 8 presets & 8 user-storageable memories. If that model might have the same "growl", I'd love to find out about it.
Thanks,
Tony D.
