Hi./ Questions re: Teisco 100P aftertouch remedies/response.

2008-01-25 by John Brod

Hi folks. I just joined the Kawai-Teisco group. MY name's Tony, and I just became the dubious 'winner' of an eBay lottery "Teisco 100P".

I say 'dubious' because although MOST things on the 100P work, two do not: the reverb (no effect at all); and the aftertouch is so hard to get working that honestly my fingers are hurtin'! :-)

Any advice? It looks like I'm going to have an eBay 'dispute' on my hands--not a welcome prospect, since the seller's in another country....

Yes, I realize that after 30 years the aftertouch elements (foam?) tend to wear out. On the other hand, the seller said, that 'everything's working well'.

Any advice would be welcome.

By the way, one good thing I've discovered is that the Teisco 100PM does indeed sound quite a lot like an ARP Pro Soloist -- which is what I'd been hoping for. (I particularly wanted to get aftertouch "growl" + filter + vibrato, and that's all there in ARPy glory, on the Teisco 100P. Now if only my fingers weren't now in need of Tiger Balm, from pressing so hard....)

If anyone in the Kawai-Teisco group knows of fairly easy fixes for the aftertouch, please let me know. [I'm hoping that, if I bring the Teisco 100P to a synth tech, he might be able to insert a different resitor or capacitor, that will boost the aftertouch response level - -without buring out the circuits, of course! :-) ]

Thanks much. Oh, if I may mention one other thing. There was another Kawai/Teisco synth (the 400xx? perhaps?) that had aftertouch, and four voices, with 8 presets & 8 user-storageable memories. If that model might have the same "growl", I'd love to find out about it.

Thanks,

Tony D.

Hi,

I don't know the 100P very much,
but you can try the vintagesynthrepair group ;)

Dear Gil,
OK, thanks! Anything's worth a try.

Appreciating your taking time to mention that,

Tony

RE: [kawai-teisco] Hi./ Questions re: Teisco 100P aftertouch remedies/response.

2008-02-06 by SergioMMMS

I have an SX-400, currently under repair (my own unprofessional hands are taking care of it...).
It does have an aftertouch feature, but I can´t tell much about it, since the sounds I´m getting out of it are a mess (random madness or worse).
The CPU board has suffered from battery acid leakage, and the tech who serviced it did not get to do much about it (as far as I can see) - I mean, the board is dusty... the acid is still there... just two or three components were replaced, but there are several flooded in acid, and others burnt (two or three ICs are completely black), other components (resistors and such) have white residues on solder points and around the pins, so... a thorough clean up will be my first action... or second or third, since I already spent about 3 or more hours id´ing all the components, both on the board and on the schematics, and also testing the power supply, and... and...
It´s not going to take too much time, although it will be done on my short spare time, so... one month or so is likely before actual results are obtained.
I´m going to have to source out ICs, but as far as I´ve seen, eBay has them all :)
Will keep you posted.
Also, if anyone went through the same and wants to drop me a line or two with some pointers, I´d appreciate it.
Thanks
