5th note is dead.Is something wrong----would the battery I hear you
guys talk about do something like this?????Please, any help would be
appreciated----don't know anything about keyboards!! ataboyal20012004-08-23 by esasafrazz@fastmail.fm
this sounds more like a key contact problem, (maybe dirty) or a dead voice maybe ? Im certainly no expert though Whatever you do, definetly get it fixed, you have a special, underrated synth!!

Thanks for the advice!I think I might take it to someone who knows what they are doing!!I've had this thing under my bed for about 10 years!!LOL ataboyal esasafrazz@... wrote:this sounds more like a key contact problem, (maybe dirty) or a dead voice maybe ? I suspect that the battery has leaked inside. If this is the case the fix is not simple at all, and I'd suggest that you try to contact one of the guys doing synth board repairs and recovery such as Oldcrow (look on google). This assumption is due to the age of the unit. However, following your description, it might be a dead chip in the voice section (oscillator or EG of one particular voice). I had a particulat voice problem happenning TWICE, on each once I found the exact same chip dead on two different voice EG sections. It was a 4xxx chip which is known to have life span of about 15 years or so. If you know some electronic diagnostics and repair I can give you some direction of how to try to determine the bad chip. But first of all open it up and look at the battery (white, on the middle, processor board). If it is good and has not leaked REPLACE IT NOW !!! because it is going to every second. Any electronic technician can do this very easily. If the battery's OK so you're good. You just have to determine the bad chip, which I'm almost sure is laying on the circuit of the bad voice oscillator or EG section. This synth definately worths fixing. I just got an Emu sampler to which I'm going to sample every analog unit I have as it seems they are all going to die in a few years... These 4xxx chips are all going to die soon I assume, not taking about other components of course as capacitor for example. I don't give them too many years from now. --- In kawai_sx210@yahoogroups.com, Alan Johnston <ataboyal2001@y...> wrote: > Thanks for the advice!I think I might take it to someone who knows what they are doing!!I've had this thing under my bed for about 10 years!!LOL ataboyal > > esasafrazz@f... wrote:this sounds more like a key contact problem, (maybe dirty) or a dead > voice maybe ? > Im certainly no expert though > > Whatever you do, definetly get it fixed, you have a special, underrated > synth!! > > On Aug 23, 2004, at 7:16 PM, ataboyal2001 wrote: > > > > > Hey Guys, > > > > > > I have a problem with a SX210 I have.It seems about every 4th or > > 5th note is dead.Is something wrong----would the battery I hear you > > guys talk about do something like this?????Please, any help would be > > appreciated----don't know anything about keyboards!! ataboyal2001

Thanks gil_wil, Hopefully it isn't the battery and I don't know anything about electronics so I'm gonna take it to someone does and I will get that battery replaced because I'm sure it hasn't been. Thanks Again AJ gil_we <gil_we@...> wrote: I suspect that the battery has leaked inside. This assumption is due to the age of the unit. However, following your description, it might be a dead voice or EG chip on the voice board. EG chips are standard chips and are much available but the voice chips are rare but may be available at ebay. The 4xxx chips are known to live for about 15 years, and considering the ones in the SX210 and other vintage synths are about 25 years old, I don't give them too many years from now. > > On Aug 23, 2004, at 7:16 PM, ataboyal2001 wrote: > > > > > Hey Guys, > > > > > > I have a problem with a SX210 I have.It seems about every 4th or > > 5th note is dead.Is something wrong----would the battery I hear you > > guys talk about do something like this?????Please, any help would be > > appreciated----don't know anything about keyboards!! ataboyal2001 > > > > > > > > > > Yahoo! Upon trying to play my 210 the other night , I had a loud hum/noise in one channel and slight in the other channel. Anyone have a clue ? I miss it already. James

From your description I tend to assume it's not the battery but a defective IC in the problematic oscillator. --- In kawai_sx210@yahoogroups.com, Alan Johnston <ataboyal2001@y...> wrote: > Thanks gil_wil, > > Hopefully it isn't the battery and I don't know anything about electronics so I'm gonna take it to someone does and I will get that battery replaced because I'm sure it hasn't been.
