If I understand the docs correctly, you need a 185-1 in each case to bridge between communication lines on the power bus bar for each case. Obviously, one can also simply mult the control voltage as needed normally, with patch cables, and run to each oscillator, for the same effect. --- In Doepfer_a100@yahoogroups.com, <karelvanbezooijen@...> wrote:

I don't have an A-185, but I think you are correct. The A-190 should provide CV/Gate to Case 1 (only the modules in the same 3U row as the A-190, unless you have the extra cable to connect your bus boards). The sockets on the A-190 can send the signals to the other case's A-185, so the A-111s and A-141 can be fed from the Case 2 system bus (again, only the same row as A-185 unless you have the bus board connection cable). That should drive your VCOs without any tuning issues ... I think.... Nick

Just using a multiple isn't quite the same as the A-185 is buffered. Nick

Thanks guys for all your reactions!
At this moment all three A111 are in the top row. Best is probably to put one in the bottom row. Then add an A185-1 in both rows and connect them to the A190 in the other cabinet.
I think I'll just buy a few and try them out, see and hear what happens.

I have a few cases with modules:
Case 1: standard basic system 2 with 2 x VCO 110 and A-190
Case 2: another case with 3 x VCO 111 plus A-141 VCADSR.
In order to control Case 2 with the same gate and CV from the A-190 I only need an A-185-1 in Case 2.
When I connect The A-190 to the A-185-1 it should be allright, right?
I read the A-185-1 manual but why should I also put an A-185-1 in Case 1?

You only need to add an A-185-1 in one row of the second case, then use a little wire from Doepfer inside the case to connect the two bus boards. (This is assuming you want to send the same CV and gate signals to both rows of the second case.)

Ok Thanks!
I thought one needed a A-185-1 for every two oscillators because on the Doepfer site it says "In general the A-185 is recommended as soon as
more than 2 VCO's (A-110, A-111) are controlled by the same control voltage
source." But I must have misunderstand that remark. So I save €50.

But I must have misunderstand that remark. So I save €50. Ah, I see the confusion here. I *believe* that without an A-185-1, the output directly from the MIDI to CV converter is only strong enough to power two oscillators, but *with* an A-185-1, once the signal's gone through it, it can power a practically unlimited amount, like a whole row of just oscillators, even. I gather this is what the whole "buffered" part means, that it boosts the signal in some way.
