Is my Epson 1280 fit for CIS?

Is my Epson 1280 fit for CIS?

2005-03-04 by toniko74

Hello,
A month ago I bought a used Epson 1280 in good shape. Now I want to
install CIS UT-2 to it. Please help me diagnose if the printer is fit
for it. What should I check? I did head allignment, all nozzles work,
on high glossy paper I get good banding-free prints. The only problem
I noticed is that with Epson Archival Matte (European Enhanced)I'm
getting visible banding. What settings in Epson's driver should I use
for this paper?

The amount of information in this group is enormous, I'm lost in all
the things I should check and learn before making b&w prints. I hope
somebody will be so nice to anser these apparently repeatedly asked
questions. My previous question about what accessories and spare part
to order from Inksupply together with UT-2 system was barely noticed.

I hope the day when I see my b&w prints made on the Epson finally
comes!

Regards

Tomek

Tomek,

The UT2 inkset doesn't require any special printer performance. However, if
your printer bands with OEM inks, it may well also band with UT2.

I generally print at 1440 dpi. You might see if leaving High Speed
un-checked makes for better prints. I find 2880 so slow, I'd hate to have
to use that for everything.

You might consider buying just a test cartridge of UT2 before investing in a
CFS. Frankly, with the sponge-less, easy-refill carts likely to be released
this month, I would go that route instead of the more expensive and less
flexible continuous flow system.

Good luck.

Tomek:
I printed trouble free for over a year with a CFS on the 1280-
A few months ago I switched to the MIS CFS and UT2's and have had
nothing but headaches with it-
I would recommend you forget about a CFS and wait for the easier refillable
carts- that's what I plan to do.
I am convinced the new CFS killed my 1280-it needs 250.00 in repairs now.
I like the UT2's but hate the CFS-

Is my Epson 1280 fit for CIS?

Tomek,

I've used the original CIS (not the MIS CFS) with my 1280 for about four
years. I've had only two problems in that time. The first problem was in the
beginning when I was trying to use InkjetMall's original pigment color inks
with the system. Clogging was a major problem and I ultimately returned the
inks for a refund. I then switched the printer/CIS to the MIS VM inkset. I
never had any problems with that set and then switched to the UT2 inks after
they became available. The UT2 inks were trouble-free as well until a couple
of weeks ago when the black cartridge began to cause problems. I replaced
the cartridge without any problems, but now the printer is apparently dying
and I'm considering buying a new 1280 and continuing to use this old CIS and
the UT2 inks (in part because of the $100 rebate on the printer and the fact
that I have a year's supply of UT2 ink that I just bought).

For all practical purposes, this printer/CIS/UT2 ink combination been
trouble-free for me and I'd highly recommend either this setup or the use of
the new refillable cartridges that are apparently on their way from MIS.

Good luck!
