Thats what I need. I have managed to install the Rip and it prints. But now I cannot for the life of me install the 2200 curves that are included with the latest edition. Does anybody know of a step by step guide? If it's available can you point me in the right direction? Thanks, Barry

Barry, There is a read-me file in the 2200 profiles folder that describes how to install the profiles and the printing workflow. Here is an excerpt from the read-me: Installing the Profiles: If your QuadToneRIP printer is NOT named "QUAD2200" you must edit the profile descriptor files to change the printer name to whatever name you have used to identify your printer before installing them with the Run-Quad-Profile script. The line to edit is highlighted in red below: ------------------------------------------------- # # quadtone curve descriptor file # # # the printer name # the curve name # no spaces or special characters, except - or _ (dash or underscore) # PRINTER=QUAD2200 CURVE_NAME=BES_2200-warm CALIBRATION=NO GRAPH_CURVE=YES ------------------------------------------------------------- After changing the printer name, if necessary, in each profile descriptor file simply drag and drop each of the profile descriptor files you wish to use on the Run-Quad-Profile script to install (Double click the script file and then drag and drop the profile descriptor file when asked). The profiles will be installed and should appear in the CurveDropBox folder. Carl On Tuesday, August 12, 2003, at 07:15 PM, flyfishingusa2002 wrote: > Thats what I need. Carl, Thanks for the info. I seem to have figured out how to install the curves. I have them now available in the print options. I can get the RIP to print if I don't use the curves, if I attempt to select one then the print just hangs. I might have installed some other file by mistake. Maybe I should start over! Dummies Guide? the MAC manual <vbg>. don't mind me...just my very first case of mac envy... I think I'll take one of my old pc's and install some flavor of LINUX the next time I have some time off...if this thing is ok with linux, I can have a dual system and just use the linux for a printer drone. cheers, tom --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "flyfishingusa2002" <tflyfish@c...> wrote: > Thats what I need. Every time i dropped the Cool / Warm Profilee txt files on the Terminal window opened by the install profile script, I only wound up with the profile txt file in the Curves Drop Box and the curves did not appear in the pinter set up window. If you read the comments about the latest Beta they note you may be asked for your admin password. I was never asked for my password. I solved this problem by opening a terminal window and then logging in with my admin password. I left that terminal window open and then dropped the profile txt files on to the new terminal window opened by the profile script, hit the enter key and the curves installed. You'll know if this works because after you hit the enter key you will see the curve being written as it scrolls through the terminal window. I did this for both cool and warm profiles. When I then went to print the cool/warm curves showed up as they should. Tonight I just printed , a 100% cool, a 100% warm and finally a 85/15 cool/warm. The 85/15 was just about spot on to my taste. By the way the notes say that after you run the install profiles script you do not have to run the install curves script. I found this to be true. As to the password quirk, I would have thought, that as I long as I long in as a single user with admin authority, terminal would know that. Apparently it does not. I also may have some problems in that a sometimes I get a terminal message that termcap or terminfo can not be found. Another problem for another day. Anyway this is what worked for me. Hope it helps And Kudos to Roy Harrington and Carl Schofield for a great program and support. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Hi Tom, The port of QUAD2 to linux is rather less less than trivial. I have tried to get the bloody thing working with two versions of linux (Red Hat and SuSE) and though the installation seemed to go as it ought I have not been able to get it to print in quad mode. Consider that you can get a beige mac on ebay for right around a hundred bucks, install a USB card for less than 40 and get an operating system up and going for another 50 you would have a machine in which QUAD should load with few problems or you could get a free copy of OPM and use that. Being a stubborn old fart I am going to continue to beat on my linux box but I have an ebay all in one beige mac on its way to hedge my bets. If I can get one or both of these to do their thing then I will probably invest in a 2200. Until then Piezo and my trusty 860 are going to have to do the job. Roger

I got my installation of QTR2 on RedHat8 working last weekend. Try sharing it to windows with Samba and print from there. For some reason I just can't get it to print from Linux itself, but as soon as I use Windows to do it everything works fine. -- Daniel Staver http://daniel.staver.no

To Carl and all the other that helped....Thanks. Late last night I produced my first couple of prints using Quadtone RIP and my Epson 2200, the results have been worth all of the effort, not to mention the purchase of a Dual 867 Mac system. I still will be using my PC, but not for much I can tell you. My problem was that the installation instruction tell you to drag the . quad files to the Run Quad terminal window. Maybe be it's just me, but I found you need to drag the files .txt and run those. This window generates the .quad files and puts them in the Curve Drop Box (Folder) you then run "Run -install-curves. However I can only get the Hpr curves to work, but these seem fine for EEM, could it be that there is a error with the other "canned" profiles? Never mind, I'm up and running with at least one set of curves and very pleased, now to sort out Adobe who want to charge me $149 to change from a PC to a Mac. Just for a new serial number. I'll wait to purchase version 8 which is not o far away. Thanks again to all, Barry --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "Daniel Staver" <daniel@p...> wrote:
