RE: [Digital BW] Re: Quadtone Rip Dummies guide?

2003-08-13 by Roger L Sopher

Hi Tom,

The port of QUAD2 to linux is rather less less than trivial. I have tried to
get the bloody thing working with two versions of linux (Red Hat and SuSE)
and though the installation seemed to go as it ought I have not been able to
get it to print in quad mode.

Consider that you can get a beige mac on ebay for right around a hundred
bucks, install a USB card for less than 40 and get an operating system up
and going for another 50 you would have a machine in which QUAD should load
with few problems or you could get a free copy of OPM and use that. Being a
stubborn old fart I am going to continue to beat on my linux box but I have
an ebay all in one beige mac on its way to hedge my bets. If I can get one
or both of these to do their thing then I will probably invest in a 2200.
Until then Piezo and my trusty 860 are going to have to do the job.

Roger

Dummies Guide? the MAC manual <vbg>.

don't mind me...just my very first case of mac envy...

I think I'll take one of my old pc's and install some flavor of LINUX
the next time I have some time off...if this thing is ok with linux,
I can have a dual system and just use the linux for a printer drone.

  cheers,

  tom
